FREE roosters-- Lavender Ameraucana, Lemon Cuckoo Orpington, and Splash Orpington

Hbhoffman, that last one isn't lavender, but splash. We actually thought the same thing though and held off on giving him away because we thought he might actually be a hen... He turned out to be 100% rooster. We finally found a good home for him after he started crowing.

FREE roosters-- Lavender Ameraucana, Lemon Cuckoo Orpington, and Splash Orpington

Hi FortheLoveofHEN, Sorry for the delayed response! I do still have the splash roo. Are you still interested in him? He has become a majestic beast over the last two weeks, but still sweet as can be.

FREE roosters-- Lavender Ameraucana, Lemon Cuckoo Orpington, and Splash Orpington

We already gave the Ameraucana away. I don't think I would have been comfortable shipping him anyway. Sorry!

FREE roosters-- Lavender Ameraucana, Lemon Cuckoo Orpington, and Splash Orpington

We have three roosters that need new homes ASAP. They are all absolutely gorgeous birds, and super friendly. The Ameraucana is mature, he's crowing and doing his business, and still really friendly to people and all the hens (and even the younger roosters). He's under a year old. I would...

Hatching Eggs under a broody, but there are two chickens in the same nesting box...

We've been planning on letting our silkie hatch some fertile eggs for ages. She's gone broody so many times in the past and we've always had to break her, but our schedules have finally aligned and we're ready to get some fertile eggs... and then our other silkie decided she would go broody...

    RIP Mary Poppins

After over a year with our flock, we lost our first chicken last night. My husband posted her epitaph on Facebook, but I felt like the BYC crowd would appreciate and understand more, so I'm posting it here as well. I was not expecting to be so devastated by this! I've cried on and off all day...

    Post your FIRST EGG pics!

Not our very first egg, but our first from our April batch of chicks. The new one is the teeny tiny dark brown egg from our BCM. Yay!

What other pets do you have?

Haha! Luckily, the chicken yard is big enough, the waste really isn't too bad.

What other pets do you have?

Fun! I loved reading through these! Besides the 13 chickens, I have 2 little mutt shelter dogs. I dream of the day I can live in a place where I can have as many animals as many of you! Here we are!

    What Dog?

No guarantee on whether the dog will be good with chickens-- that'll depend on individual temperament, how you raise/train the dog, etc. But I've had several hypo-allergenic dogs and Maltese and Malti-poos are both great breeds. Right now we have a tiny dog from the local shelter-- a mutt but...

How to make my chickens friendly

It might just take time. My first flock was mostly standoffish and scared of us at 19 weeks, and we had done everything you said you'd done. We'd handled them since they were day-old chicks, hand-fed them, spent lots of time with them, etc. They just took a long time to get used to us. They are...

Hen made nest in bad area...what to do

Again, I'm not an expert by any means. Just sharing what we're trying.
