What kind of chicken is this

Well, we can't be sure without pictures, but your description does sound like they could be Australorps. This is what the chicks look like, and the adult hens' feathers are black but (luminescent?) reflect a greenish color.

7 week old with prolapsed vent - HELP!

So sorry to hear about your pullet! I don't know much, but I have had a young hen prolapse (and survive!). The best and first thing you can do would be to bathe her and see if she really does have vent prolapse. If it is prolapsed, you should wash it with soap and water as gently and as best...

New flock owner.. What breed are they?

x2 That or a Golden Sex Link. :welcome Glad you're here!

    Not sure what these are...

I'd guess Barred Rock, as their barring (stripes) is/are very clear. And, the gray wash on the front legs may indicate pullet. Lovely birds! :)

Paying Homage? --Anyone heard of this before??

So we lost our matriarch of the flock last night to old age (6-7+ years old, BLW). :hit We'll miss her. But when I went to get eggs just now, 6 of the 8 were in the nest box she was found in this morning. This wouldn't be too strange (I mean, it was a nest box, for crying out loud), except...

    Bear bottom

I agree with BoomChickaPop --at only 7 months she wouldn't be molting. The only two things I can think of would be: 1. That she is or is preparing to go broody (hens remove feathers in that location to better keep their eggs warm and humid) 2. That she has some sort of feather parasite (check at...

Consumed Blu Kote!? Will she be okay?!?

I made a terrible mistake. My BO pullet (hatched last May) is at the bottom of the pecking order. Today I saw that her comb had been pecked. I cleaned it and put Blu Kote on it --not even stopping to think about the fact that it would get into her nose and mouth! I only used one dab, but it...

Diatomaceous Earth - Who uses it and for what?

There's a link in my signature about using DE with chickens that's pretty helpful. I use it (lightly) in the summer in the dustbathing areas and the coop, as well as in the water and food year-round. It sure seems to work well for repelling insects!

    Silver Phoenix?

Possibly Silver Gray Dorkings? The pullet does look quite a bit like this breed...though I'm not sure her chest is that reddish... Both of your birds are lovely by the way! (And the Blue Laced Red Wyandottes, too! Love that breed!) :)

day 17, horrific dog attack. should I bathe her?

Sorry to hear about such a terrible attack! I don't have extensive knowledge about deep wound care, but it would seem as if you're doing all you can for her for now. As long as she's coated in Nustock and isn't showing signs of obvious infection, you may want to just wait it out. Especially...

    Is this poop normal?

I'm pretty sure that that is a regular poop - just a wet one :sick Here's the (infamous) poop chart to compare your pictures to: http://www.chat.allotment.org.uk/index.php?topic=17568.0 Hope that helps, somewhat. :)

Help! Silkie Chicken's face, wattles and earlobes are very swollen

Sorry to hear about your hen! I'm also sorry to say that I don't have much experience with swelling and such, though most facial swelling, eye infections, etc. is commonly from respiratory infections. Does her face have any bad smell to it? If it does, that would almost definitely mean a...

Sorry to say it, but looks like a Roo. Judging by the comb/wattle size, tail shape, and thickness of the legs, there's not much chance that it's a pullet. Sorry! :/

Need some advise to treat a molting girl with a sore foot

Sorry to hear about your hen! Rough molts are tough on both the animal and the owner. Since you haven't inspected the foot yet, there's not much I can tell you, though your description does sound a bit like bumblefoot. For the initial inspection (and if you do have to deal with bumblefoot or...

Help is this a mini molt ?

First off, Welcome to BYC!!! We're happy to have you! :D At only 5 months old, they wouldn't be molting; however, this is nothing to be worried about! Since you just got them last Friday, they are no doubt still adjusting to their new home, which is likely stressful and can lead to feather...
