Hiya
We've just introduced five new darling chooks to our established (1year old) three chooks. Connie is being really aggressive to the new ones, specifically picking on one (Murphy... who is so good natured).. but also pecks at the others. She tries to pull out their feathers and has...
Thanks Chillin
I'm being totally senior/blonde.... measurements are good but I can't understand them lol.. We would like to get another five chooks but i don't want there to be to many for the run hence my question.
Thankyou for your answer though
Sorry also wanted to add... what's the max amount of chooks we could house? I'm thinking of another five.... but as I said in earlier post don't want to overcrowd them.
Also, I've read somewhere that we should have somewhere for the newbies to run to. What would that be?
Hiya
Me again!!!
We have an external coop (omlet go up) and run 1m x 3m with three chooks (sadly lost one last weekend). We are going to get some more chooks. We have an extended run (outside of the omlet run) of 3m x 4m. how many chooks would that hold, please? Ideally we would like to...
Hiya
I take on board all you say and agree actually. I was venting anger and I was annoyed with my ineptness... easier to lay blame.. I shall however look up what you have mentioned. I actually don't think it was worms in hindsight. Whilst chatting to the saleslady of the company supplying...
Thanks for your response... You will see from my response to Dawg what's happened. If only I'd known.... how often do we ever say that? Anyway we are better equipped to deal with the new chooks we are getting.... I'm hoping that the only other trauma is when they begin to moult. Hey ho...
Hi Dawg
I'm truly grateful for your advice. I've just managed to locate a supplier of the flubenvet. I am sooooooooooooooo angry that the supplier of our chooks didn't tell us that they needed worming. I could be wrong but the symptoms Keira showed was akin to gapeworm..but I may just be...
Thanks Dawg
I'm more than happy to throw the eggs away... our chooks are first and foremost pets.
How often should I use Flubenvet? Our chooks don't have worms. When you say it doesn't interfere with egg laying, can we still distribute eggs to our friends and family? don't want to poisen...
Hiya
Thanks for your answer... I think I'd like to go down the natural route. We've had our chooks since last June and they have been laying every day (we're in the UK)... well an egg missed here and there.
How often do you give them the cayenne peppers and pumpkin seeds? Could you let me...
Hiya
I've never thought of worming our chooks but sadly we lost our precious Keira last night... she was put to sleep at the vets... she apparently had a lung infection. She was as right as rain on Friday. Anyway I don't want to dwell on that at the mo.... but whilst looking on the net and...
Growl
This appears on the home page (I think).... sorry very much a newbie... I turn to BYC when I have a problem.
Will leave well alone and follow answers in this thread.
Thanks again...
Hi all
I've read the great article on muddy runs, but I'm still not sure what I should do!!! Senior moment methinks.
Anyway... we have a go up omelet coop and run, so I'm confident that when our chooks are asleep they are ok. However, we extended the run with another walk in 3m x 4m run...
Also I wanted to thank dallinjm1226. for his excellent advice, but I can't see his response in this thread. If you see it thank you.... I agree with what you said... they are bored and need things. We propose putting a log and other climbing articles in the extended coop.
Hi all. I thought I'd let you know that we have bought an extended run 3mx4m! I've just posted another thread about how to paint the aluminium poles, but having researched it I think low VOC paint is the way to go... but I've been emailing suppliers asking questions.
Once again thanks for all...
Hiya
We decided that the omlet run was to confined for our chooks, we think they were going stir crazy, especially as they had freedom whilst we are in the garden to roam free.
Anyway we've just bought a 3mx4m run which is made of aluminium poles and green netting. We would like to paint...
thanks for that.... what type of things? She's in a coop with three other chooks. Omlet guarantee that it's the right size coop for four chooks. One thing I have noticed is that all four chooks like going under their food container. In fact only today I noticed that they were going one after...
Hi all
Thanks for your advice. The chooks have laid egg from the first day we got them. We;ve not seen freya trying to get the lead in the pecking order... all the chooks get along fine. I also recognise them laying eggs.. poor souls lol. The noise freya makes is like when they were all new...
