All this guy hatches is chicken eggs, he has about a 95 percent hatch rate. I would think spraying them would be to much humidity. But he knows what he is doing evidently.
Thanks for the replies! You are correct about the third position, I just never thought to try that. I have another friend that has a similiar incubator and he also mist his eggs with water with a spray bottle? Ever heard of that? He has a high percentage of hatch rate, so I guesshe knows what he...
Me and my buddy just got a used chest type incubator . The automatic turner tilts to the left and right but in order to get the shelf out they need to be sitting level. Is there a secret to getting the trays level so I can pull it out to load it with eggs? This sounds like a dumb question I...
On the show how its made they did a show on hatcheries. They showed the workers sexing chicks by their wings. If all the little feathers were all even then it was a male if some were shorter than others then they were female. I thought this was very interesting. I was wondering if I'm the only...
Thanks for the replies. I understood all of them except the one with all the chromesomes, that stuff is over my head. As far as mean roosters, I had several, he became nice though.... just didn't like steel toe boots for some reason.
I am interested in hatching some of the red sex link chickens. Sil-go-links, red star, comets, cinnamin queens, they all seem to be about the same to me. I know it takes a cherry egger rooster and a barred rock hen to get rock reds but they are the black sex links and don't lay as good. I would...
Just wondering if anyone has had trouble with foxes killing chickens during the day? I have a very large lot, atleast 2 acres, and I am finding chickens with their hear and breast gone. Thats all it eats, and then gets another. I have lost about 20 in the last 2 months. I am assuming it is a...
I have been looking at some of the home made incubators posted on this site and I must say they are really neat. I want to build one and I got a few questions. I have noticed that the turners being used looks like it holds the egg in the verticle posiotion with the little end up? Do eggs hatch...
I was wondering what kind of hatch rate you all have with a still air incubator. I have one of the small styrofoam type with 35 eggs in it and Monday was day 21. I have only had about 12 to hatch and 2 of those died. Not a very good rate. The other two times that I have used it the results were...
The hatchery that I have ordered from does mark the head if the breeds are similiar, for example comets and sil go links are basically the same so they marked their heads and the box telling us which was which. Every dominique or barred rock that I have ever seen was black with a yellow dot on...
I don't think you should give up either. I tried 3 times before I got the kinks works out. Just checked my incubator a few miniutes ago and I got four trying to dry off and three more trying to peck out!

That rooster is white rock and new hampshire cross. The breeds I have right now is comets, sil-go-links, rock reds, cinnamin queens, white rocks, speckled sussex, partridge rocks, california whites, delawares, barred rocks, brown leghorns, new hampshires, I also hatched some last year...
Temperature can affect the hatch rate. I read somewhere the other day that an incubator set 2 degrees higher during a certain 7 days would speed the hatching by 5 hours, but in the wrong seven days would cause birth defects. I have had eggs to hatch on the 23rd day. Good luck.
Hello, I am new to this forum and would like to say hello. I have about 75 chickens, comets, sil go links, white rocks to name a few. I have 35 eggs in an incubator that are due to hatch monday. I have had chickens all my life and just got my new lot done about a month ago. It is about 2 acres...
