    Rooster?

It is. Pale and very small. No bigger than the three others that are the same age and for sure pullets. They are all around the same size too. I always psyche myself out over the stupid tail feathers. I did this exact same thing last year with an Easter egger. Lol

    Rooster?

Here's a few more. The bird is 3.5 months old and he did come from the hatchery as "sexed" and we all know how well that works out

    Rooster?

Can any of you chicken experts tell me if this beautiful thing is a rooster?

    Fox attacks

I guess I'll consider myself lucky that I have not had any fox attacks during the day. Just giving my two cents!

    Fox attacks

My husband and I moved to our house in rural Colorado in October of 2014, and in the last year we have lost eight hens to a pair of punk red foxes. My husband has a wildlife degree and works in the field. I wouldn't waste your time even attempting a live trap. In lots of cases, if a fox gets...

    Araucana rooster maybe?

I'm new to this, I thought they were the same. Call it whatever you want, as long as it lays eggs! Lol. This is why I should stick to cows.

    Araucana rooster maybe?

So...I have one 11 week Black Australorp rooster that has the long tail feathers and bigger comb/wattles (I think he's going to grow up to be quite handsome!). Then, I have this Araucana that I think is a rooster, but I'm not sure. The picture is not the best, but maybe some of you experts can...

    Extremely loud/coughing chicken

Yes, she is eating and drinking just fine. Other than the coughing and lack of egg laying, she seems to be ok. None of the other chickens seem to be affected, and I have been pretty closely monitoring them. I was hoping to get Tylan, but they did not have it at my feed store. I'll try the wormer...

    Extremely loud/coughing chicken

Ok, here is the link to the YouTube video I took of her: I got some Duramycin at the feed store, and I'm planning on starting her on it tomorrow. I have a means of isolating her as not to disrupt the collection and consumption of the rest of the eggs (I think the withdrawal was three...

    Extremely loud/coughing chicken

Hello Backyard Chickeners, One of my best hens, a Barred Rock, has been EXTREMELY loud and shouty, which I think could be a cough? She is eating and drinking just fine, but she is doing a lot of open-mouth breathing. Her comb and wattles are nice and red, but I don't think she is laying...

    Chickens missing neck feathers

Hello Backyard Chickeners! I hope all of you had an amazing holiday! I moved my girls about three months ago into our new house and their new coop, which is significantly smaller than their last. I noticed a few weeks ago that my Wyandotte was missing feathers on the back of her neck. We...

    california white

I have one CA White, which I got when she was a few days old. She is incredibly friendly and laid her first egg at 18 weeks. She lays me a white egg almost every single day, and the eggs are getting bigger and bigger. I'm definitely planning on getting more of this breed in my next batch of...

    Egg laying (Yay!)

Hey Backyard Chickeners, I need your opinions. I have a RIR hen that started laying about three weeks ago. She was laying almost an egg every day, and they were getting progressively bigger. Then, this weekend, we went out of town for four days, and she has not laid an egg since I got back...

    RIR Laying Eggs

I have two RIR that were born mid-February, but I have not seen any eggs yet. I think they are very close though! Based on my reading of other forums, it looks like RIRs lay around 6-7 months. It will be worth the wait, they are very good layers! :)

Rhode Island Red age of laying

I have two RIRs that are about 24 weeks and pretty close to laying. I got all my girls around Feb/March (first time chicken lady here), and I am really happy with the RIR girls. They come up to see me and have never been aggressive or mean. Overall very pleasant chickens. My Barred Rock and...

    Rhode Island Red Rooster maybe??

Thanks so much everyone! I really appreciate the responses! I have not heard him crow yet...about when would he start crowing or trying to crow? I don't mind keeping him, but I've heard that RIR roosters can be mean and aggressive. Thoughts?? For the picture, just choose the icon above...

    Hello Everyone!

Hi! My name is Alison and I live in Morrison, Colorado with my husband Brandon, my dog Ariel, my horses Pistol and Ralph, and of course my chickens! I have nine chickens: Three Rhode Island Reds, a Black Australorp, Silver Laced Wyandotte, two Araucanas, a California White, and a Barred Rock...

    Rhode Island Red Rooster maybe??

Hi Everyone! I'm Alison and I'm a newbie to backyard chickens and chickens in general. I have three Rhode Island Reds (among others) which were hatched toward the end of February and are about 18 weeks old now. Despite being sexed at the hatchery (which I know is not 100% accurate), I am...
