    Creative coyote deterrents?

I like the idea of the paintball gun just because you know which one is the problem one and if it is coming back or if it is another one. You can also show the DNR which one you shot so they could remove the nuisance. Sometimes that will encourage the others to move on. I knew a guy who would...

    Creative coyote deterrents?

I know that here (So.Dak) there is a poultry for sale page on FaceBook. You could look there and on CL to try to find some to keep yours company until at least spring.

    Muscovy question

Question about one of the ducks in the photo. The one in the front is the mother and the one in the back is the daughter. The one in back doesn't seem to be getting the carunkles like the mother is and is a lot darker. Is it possible that a wild duck (not muscovy, I'm in SD and none wild...

    BYC Guinea hen club

We have a local feral cat who once tried to attack the guineas and ducks. Now the guineas see him and they go in to a LOUD v formation and start running at him, he has been fortunate enough to out run them so far. LMAO!! It's funny to see.

I don't know if you're on FB but there is a page for SD poultry. Someone was asking about a single roo too, I know there was someone on there selling them. I don't know if it will work, but here's the link: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1572196616376679/

I like that show too, but, one of my ultimate BBC favorites is Dr. Who. I used to watch it years and years ago, when I was a kid, on PBS. I really wish our public TV would start playing "Are you being served" again. Loved that show!

When mine started laing I would not let them out until after noon, did this for a month or two now they only lay where they are supposed to. But, that was also before the hot weather (at least here).

    destruction and disposal orders HELP

You sound like a local. Unless you looked on the google earth you might not have known the sizes. My FIL lives down that way, I think his address is Hudson. I only know we take the fairview exit to get to his place then go straight east for a bit and then south. I grew up a little further north.

Hudson is right on the border of SD and IA. Not sure where that hatchery is, as far as address?

    destruction and disposal orders HELP

( I live in SD and have heard nothing about a private non-commercial flock being culled. The only ones on the news here are large scale operations. No mention of backyard flocks, so I'm confused as to where the eggs came from? Closest hatchery is in IA.

Muscovies are larger than the other two I think. I have heard they can kill the others if the male tries to breed with a female of another breed due to their size. I house mine with guineas so I am not sure about how they get along with other ducks.

    Drake sitting on eggs?

He's about a year old. Like I said, he's been getting picked on and looks a little rough right now. Guineas have been chasing him and the other male muscovy ducks try to keep him away from food.

    Drake sitting on eggs?

Yep, pretty sure he is male, twice the size of females and mounts them also. I am wondering if this has something to do with him getting picked on enough to where he mostly stays in the building. I am rehoming him also. But, I just thought it was strange.

    Drake sitting on eggs?

Do male muscovy ducks set on the nests too? I have a nest that there is a male sitting on at times? I have heard my guineas will do this and "share" duties, but I wasn't sure if this held for ducks also?
