Good Day,
I recently inherited a turn x 6 manual turn. It seems complete but does not have instructions. I noticed in this thread that you have these instructions and can email a copy Any help you could give would be greatly appreciated. These seem to be solid and well made incubators...
Dry incubation works well here in eastern North Carolina. I always check air cells at day 7,10 and 14. If they are growing too fast, I add 2 or 3 ounces of water. This has only happened a couple of times when incubating in late winter or early spring when relative humidity was very low. There is...
Good luck. We have thought of doing the same. One of our hens gathered wooden eggs from a couple of nests and sat for several weeks. No wooden chicks hatched!
Here is the next hatchling. This one's mom is an Easter Egger, and there are several candidates for dad. The yellow makes us wonder if the Buff Opphington may be the one.
Our first chick from our backyard flock. This is a "mystery chicken". We are not sure of parentage but are excited to see how he looks as he/she grows!
We do have roosts outside. We took a big limb from a downed tree and buried it so the branches are parallel from the ground. Another roost is part of our children's old play set. We took the top of the monkey bars and attached it at a 45 degree angle at the side of the coop. The chickens...
We have a similar mixed breed flock. We have Barred Rock, Black Australorp, Buff Orphington, Rhode Island Red, Silver Laced Wyandott, and Easter Eggers. We even kept one of each rooster until very recently. Because they had grown up together, they all get along. We have almost no hen drama...
I love our Barred Rock Rooster, Rocky. He is so friendly that we can pick him up. He is also more gentle with his hens than some of the other roosters we have had. I hope that as he matures (he is only 9 months old) that he keeps his good disposition.
Very cold here in the eastern part of the state as well. We and the animals are glad for the break from the cold this weekend. We are expecting more cold next week. I hope that at least the sheet of ice that is my backyard thaws out today!
The time lapse will definitely make it more interesting, since it seems to be taking a really long time for each chick. The eggs wiggle a bit, we hear them, and maybe a tiny bit of shell cracks off. Then the chicks rest for a while. The first one has been at it for a couple of hours with only...
