Just in case this feed is still running, I've finally got an egg from our aracauna 'Pixie'. She had laid for 2 weeks now on and off and they are great eggs. The other eggs are from my black leghorn and our wheaten maran.
Still haven't had any eggs from our aracauna yet. She is still squatting and seems to be pacing around the run at times.
Also, just wondering how your comb looks on your girl. Our Pixie's comb isn't very red. More pink and it's not very large.
Thanks for the info @yellowsunshine. Your blue eggs are to die for. Am hoping that our Aracauna is about to start laying. She is 18 weeks and has just started squatting. I'm looking forward to my suprise first egg from her.
Thanks again :-)
Hi. Thanks for the replies. I only noticed mites when I housed down the poop tray from my coop. I clean this weekly with the house and daily I scrape the poo. When I started hosing the mites came crawling out.
I'm using pestene powder. Is this safe to use and when can my kids pick up the...
Hi all. Recently noticed the red mites in my coop. I'm in Australia and I have completely cleaned out the coop and dusted the coop and roost bars with pestene powder. I've also dusted the hens. How long do people so this for to get the mites eradicated. Also, do the red mites travel from the...
@yellowsunshine At what month did your aracauna start laying? And what color are her eggs? I have 2 pekins (laying), a barred rock, aracauna and a black leghorn. The last 3 girls are all 10 weeks old. Thanks.
Thanks for the help teila. They do have a space underneath in their coop. They also have a run. Hoping they are practicing for laying their first egg. Won't get too excited. So would you let them be and just wait and see? I don't want to keep shooing them out from their nesting box if their...
thanks so much. The roost bar is higher except where the divider is between the nesting box. Their combs are red, although I know they need to get settled. Thanks again for the info.:)
Hi all. Just a quick one. My Rosie is still being pecked by Peach. They have been in their new home for a week now. Still no eggs. They are still deciding to sit in their nesting boxes to sleep. What can I do to change this habit? Will the pecking stop soon. Another question, how often...
Hi all. Just wondering whether I will scare my 24 week pekin bantams by bringing them out into the backyard and having the kids their too? They have only just been home for 3 days and they haven't started laying yet. Will I scare them off laying? Look forward to your advice.
Thanks Teila. I'm eagerly awaiting the first egg. How long should you leave them to adjust to the coop before letting them free range in the garden? I was told to leave them for 3 days for them to adjust and find food and water. Is this right? How do you know when they are ready to lay?
Thanks for your advice. Greatly appreciated. Also another question. I'm a first time chicken owner and I was wondering when do you all open their doors in the morning. Sunrise? Or later? Thanks again.
Hi all. I have just bought home two pekin bantams. Rosie (white) and Peach (buff). They are beautiful and are behaving at the moment. When do the Perkins start laying? Mine are 24 weeks, but have just been put in their new home (coop). Looking forward to the response. [/IMG]
