this being the start of my 2nd year and 2nd flock I am new to the challenges and welcome any advice. I would cull any bird that was in pain or could cause a threat to the flock I have always felt that is part of the responsibility of caring for animals. Its part of the reason I took on the...

I realize there was an old thread exactly what I found on my hen this morning but I'm not sure if its standard to start a fresh case for each issue. Barred Rock, purchased as a day old in August. Started laying a couple months ago. I have 14 hens and have found that I usually get 13...
I realize this is an old thread but it is exactly what I found on my hen this morning. Barred Rock, purchased as a day old in August. Started laying a couple months ago. I have 14 hens and have found that I usually get 13 occasionally all 14. I noticed this morning the feathers missing on her...
Update. I was worried about it being Mareks as well. With her eating and drinking I had thought she could pull through if it wasn't but the uncertanty of cause and advice on those visiting I chose to take away her pain. It was the first bird I had to do this for but I do think it was for the...

First time letting the 6 week old Barred Rock pullets out on the weekend into the pen from the coop. They are sectioned off from the older chickens. I noticed that one pullet was stumbling. I inspected the feet and found nothing out of the ordinary that I could see. no bumblefoot I guess. I have...

and it did look like cooked egg yolk, and I dismissed that originally as silly; but from a little reading on what you mention I see it may have been just that, egg yolk.
Greetings,
I have been raising chickens since April (2014) not long. I purchases 17 sexlinks (now 2yrs old) from a boy up the road, a family I know. This weekend I found a hen dead in the afternoon. My first realization that I need to band their legs so I can identify the chickens better...
as for up to my ears in eggs, Luckily I have a few people at work purchasing a few dozen each week. And the ones my mother in-law doesn't get either feed me and the kids or end up getting pickled.
14 red sex links and 3 black sex links. the 3 black sex links are larger than the red ones, older maybe or is that a trait for them? they do control the upper roost in the coop :)
thanks everybody for the confirmation. And a Rooster is welcome in my flock. Never had one before and he seems to have some character. I live out of town so the rooster will fit in that way no noise issues, then again will have to wait and hear what my family feels about that later. :)
thanks...
I just received my first Polish hen from a friend that had problems with her getting along with her flock that was a few months older. So she brought it to me to see if this 3 month old Polish hen would fit in with my 16, 1 month old barred rocks. "Houdini" the Polish hen is a little bossy but...
I'd spent far too much time behind a keyboard and in server rooms so last year I started construction of a coop. Early spring, during the -30C weather, I had the opportunity to purchase a flock of 17 1yr old sexlinks. It spured me to complete the coop earlier than expected, it was very cold but...
