These are two combs of my two ladies. The second chicken has always had a bit more 'masculine' features, but she's definitely a hen! :) Hope this helps!!
As cool as a real life Turducken would be, there's a reason we haven't seen a naked neck barred malard Turducken anywhere. Despite looking really similar, genetically all these birds are very different. Not only are they all different species (Gallus gallus domesticus, Anas platyrhynchos...
I used to have 3, happy 4 year old hens all together (these are the chicks in my profile picture). However, two of my hens died recently due to an unknown illness and some nasty ruthless animal that got into the coop somehow. I've secured it up tight, but my last remaining chicken seemed lonely...
I first got my chickens about 5 years ago, and currently I have 4 beautiful hens. I've had barred rocks, buff orpingtons, and currently I have two easter eggers and two wyandottes. I first found out about BYC by googling questions I had about my chickens, and eventually signed up for membership...
That's certainly a very creative way to handle the problem!! ;) I think your money however, might be better spend on either coyote urine (yes they sell that!) or some type of automatic lights that you could put around your coop to scare the coyote away. But these are just preventative measures...
I'm not sure what tracker supply's vaccination policy is but if you got your chickens labeled pullets...that means they should be all female. If you got them labeled straight run...that means that there is a 50/50 chance of male/female.
I hope that helped a bit!
Yes. I used to give oatmeal to my chickens as a treat when they were small. I never bothered to cook it, but I think it wouldn't do any harm. If you decide not to cook it though, you may wanna break it up a little bit with your hands to get it into sizes that they can chew. Hope this helps!
Hello everyone! I have a question, how big is to big? My chickens are one year old currently and very healthy. But I realized when I went to a friends house that their chickens were way smaller than my own. So I was wondering, can chickens get to big? And if so, then should I start feeding mine...
Hey BYC! I have a problem...my chicken Ginger has RED FEET! Here in Oregon, temperature has dropped by a lot. The average temp. is high 40's low 20's. SO, I have recently noticed that my buff orpington, Ginger, has red feet. I was wondering if this was normal or...if I have to use Vaseline or...
Hi BYC! My chicken scarlet hasn't laid in three days....Here in Oregon the weather has been getting cold and the days longer, but my other chickens are laying just fine. Recently, Scarlet has moved down the pecking order (she is now at the bottom). Could this make her stop laying? She is really...
Hi! When I had my chicks, there wan't really much of a solution I found. What I did to slightly prevent this problem was to use less bedding around the waterer. This won't keep all of the bedding and droppings out but it will slightly reduce this problem...Good Luck.
