My husband thinks she is molting. She won't even be a year old until April 18th. And molting in the dead of winter? these are our first chickens since we were kids. I am really enjoying them but I only have 5. 4 hens and and a rooster. Worried they will get sick or the hawks will get them this...
At first I thought my chicken was being pecked and it was skinned, bloodied places but have noticed it is spreading all around her waddle and comb? She is a Rhode Island Red. None of my others seem to be affected, only one hen. Her comb and waddle have also started turning pale. Anyone know what...
I am still only getting 3 out of 5 hens. I bought all my chicks good Friday and only the RIR are laying. I have 3 RIR and the others I have no idea. They are smaller and have head-dress on top of their heads....lol but thought they would be laying by now as well. My hubby thinks they are maybe...
Thank you it has been something I have been wondering about. I know the coyotes will clean it up over night but before then I was afraid my dogs would get into it and then start killing my birds. They have all been so good to not even look at them and let the chickens even pick stuff off them...
Ok I live way out in rural Northeastern Oklahoma. I have 2 outside dogs and 2 inside dogs. A barn cat and 6 chickens. None of them bother my chickens now. I raised the chickens from baby chicks. They free range during the day while I am at work and I put them up and let them out everyday. I was...
I have 5 hens and one rooster. Two weeks ago I was getting one egg a day. This past week I started getting 2 eggs a day. I bought mine Good Friday also. So I have probably 2 or 3 hens not laying yet. I think they all go on their own time....lol It is exciting looking for eggs everyday to see how...
today I signed in twice then it kept telling me that was the wrong username, email, and password. But after the second time I just came on in forums and it shows me signed in....lol thanks
Yes laying feed usually has all their needs met. Mine has oyster shell etc in it. I think mine is called laying pellets. I hope she sticks around and you get many more eggs!
I am so sad I had to get rid of 3 roosters I raised from chicks. They were all supposed to be pullets but ended up with 5 hens and 4 roosters. I kept one rooster BOB and got rid of the other 3. One was starting to get mean. One was very aggressive with the hens and one was just one to many...
Oh how exciting to get your first egg! I am still waiting on mine. Even if you didn't get to actually get it....lol It is still an egg that you know she laid! Congrats! Mine are only 17 weeks old, so I have a little time left to wait.
Yeah hopefully that will work out for you. She may be used to free ranging and won't take to being cooped up. But who knows. I let mine out every morning and they go in every night to roost and I shut them up so nothing gets them in the night. She may just need cooped up a few days to show her...
If you keep food and water out for her and build, buy or use some type of old box for her to get in at night and roost she will probably stay. Good find! enjoy your chicken!
My roosters were all raised together. Bought them all as little chicks and they were supposed to be all hens. Out of 9 little chicks 4 ended up being roosters. They fought and picked on one another constantly and ran the hens constantly to try to keep them away from the other rooster and I free...
Thank you all for the advice. I will get rid of 3 roosters. Now I have to choose which one! The top rooster is smaller and doesn't attack us. My 2 black beauties are very big but they mainly pick on my lowest guy roo roo. I know roo roo has to go since he is mean. So I will probably keep the...
Ok I looked for the other thread you talked about but it did not come up. I have a mean rooster. I bought 10 little chicks a few days old. They were all supposed to be pullets but I ended up with 4 roosters and 5 hens since one little chick died. The rooster that is the lowest in the pecking...
