Thanks for the advice. We started on the Corid on Saturday and roo is looking better, as is the poop. Took a sample to the vet today and he does have coccidiosis.
I looked at the TSC website and the Corid they have is for cows. Is that the same you use for chickens? I was going to bring him in and give him probiotics and electrolytes. Will it hurt to give the Corid with those?
We did not do the 2nd dose of Valbazen. I'm kicking myself now. I have...
This morning when cleaning the poop tray I noticed some very watery poop, with blood in it. At least 2 spots. When I let the chickens out to free range for a little while I noticed the rooster's comb and wattles were black. He was out less than a minute and sat down rather than foraging. His...
They could be EE's. Hubby got them from a co-worker and just said they would lay colored eggs. He keeps saying they are Auracauna but I would doubt they are EE's.
Either way, I was afraid this was a roo too. I was hoping for 2 and 2 but it doesn't look like I got lucky.
These chicks hatched on January 1st. I'm sure I have 2 cockerels and one hen. But the one with the pea comb is confusing me. Is it a hen or a roo? They come from Auracuana hens and a Maran rooster.
The one near the front on the left side.
Another shot of the pea comb, bird on the bottom...
I thought I'd thrown the bag away but I found it in a cabinet. It's chick starter/grower. I may just stick with that another week or so then add in sime treats.
Congrats! I can't imagine waiting for that many to hatch. We set 4 eggs and waiting on them from the first pip to the last chick was torture. I couldn't stand it any longer and at some point after the first two hatched I reached in quickly and removed the shells. I have a little Brinsea Mini...
My EE/Maran cross chicks are 8 and 9 days old today. They are growing like weeds. All are eating and drinking good and are active (knock on wood). This is my first time with chicks. Any advice on things I should be doing? I've read the Learning Center articles about raising baby chicks but...
They were all set at the same time. We noticed a faint crack last night about this time. Now it is just a big hole. No zipping yet. I'll read up on helping it out but will give it a few more hours before trying it.
I couldn't stand seeing the dirty paper towel or watch the last egg being rolled around like a bowling ball so I quickly removed the hatchlings and put them in the brooder. I don't know about the final egg but I feel better seeing it on a fresh paper towel. It's still moving about and trying to...
3 of my 4 eggs hatched yesterday (Yay!!!!). All the chicks are fluffy and moving around great today, still in the incubator. The final egg has a pip but is progressing much slower than the previous hatchings. The paper towel I put on the bottom of the incubator is getting pretty gross...
2 down 2 to go. One has pipped nothing from the other one yet.
I know to leave the chicks in the bator but can I pull the old shells out? It's driving me crazy seeing them in there.
