Blood on egg after laying...is this cause for concern?

My son just went out to gather eggs, and there was quite a bit of blood on the outside of our Auracana's egg from today. She is approximately 3 years old, has never had difficulty laying before, and seems like she is eating just fine. I fed her strawberries, cantaloupe, and tomatoes today by...

    Our first chicks ever!

We're getting another Wyandotte (silver laced), and an Aruacauna on Thursday. I was thinking 4 didn't seem like many birds, but then I realized that they can get rather noisy at times so maybe 4 is a good number with the neighbors sitting right on top of us.

I did it again.... golden laced wyandotte... (PIC ADDED)

We just picked up a GLW yesterday as well! She's so fluffy, and ROUND in the hiney and I can't wait to see her shape as she grows.

    Our first chicks ever!

We bought two chicks at the feed store yesterday, and we're really enjoying the little buggers already. We're planning on having 4 total, and my two boys got to pick out their chicks yesterday. DH and I are going back next Thursday when they receive more varieties. So far we have a RRI, and a...

Vaccinated or not? I'm not quite sure if this is ok...

We took a trip to the feed store today for some basic "research" (and to see if they had any chicks we could sneak home). They're receiving a batch of chicks tomorrow morning, and we were hoping to make a trip back to pick up a couple. I asked if they would be vaccinated against Marek's, and I...

Quote: The footprint is 6x8, and we're planning on putting 4 birds in there so they're will be a little bit of room for more. I know we've said 4 but I'm pretty sure we'll end up with more of these fuzzy punks. I'll keep my eyes open to see what I can find around here. I've been here my...

Quote: Hello to you down in San Diego! I'm so torn between the sturdy breeds, and the fun looking breeds. Hopefully in a few weeks I can find exactly what we want without having to order them.

Quote: Woohoo more East Bayers! We're in the tri-city area, and have been for the last 6 years. I just looked at the chickenstock thread, and unfortunately it's way too far. It looks like it's going to be a blast though! Maybe there will be something closer to our area in the future, or we...

New here from SF (East) Bay Area!

Quote: How exciting! The boys technically finished the school year a few weeks ago, but we're going year round with math so they don't lose what they worked so hard to gain. My kiddos just finished kindergarten and 5th grade. We had some adjustments, and I didn't feel like we'd really hit our...

New here from SF (East) Bay Area!

We are jumping into chickens, and are super excited! We've wanted chickens for about a year, and had some major changes this year which put it on hold. We started homeschooling both of our boys at the beginning of this school year, and while it has been really fun it was super intense. We...
