    Always hungry?

Thanks for the feedback. I got them some layer crumbles and they are reluctantly eating it. I just read on another thread that if your chickens are rushing at you for food every time you step out the door that they are not content - so I freaked out

    Always hungry?

we tried the pellets but they don't eat them. They are out of the cage about 5 hours every day. I thought that considering we give them treats and extra protein occasionally that the free range seed would be ok?

    Always hungry?

Yes it's a complete feed for free range laying hens. We have 4 chickens and usually get 4 eggs a day and have done since they started laying. I also have a small bowl of shell grit in the coop.

    Bored chickens

I'm worried about my chickens during the day. We leave them in their coop during the day due to predators and because they will destroy our garden. I'm worried that they might be bored though (am I crazy ) it's quite a small space and I'd like to give them some sort of enrichment but they don't...

    Always hungry?

Hello I'm worried I'm not feeding my girls enough as they always seem to be hungry and obsessed with food (is this normal?) They always have seed available. I use a free range mix from the pet store. They just pick out the bits they like and the rest ends up on the ground though. I also give...

    Bald butt chicken

Hello One of our girls has developed a bald butt, must have happened this week. Noticed her feathers were getting a bit sparse in the butt region last weekend. Not sure what it could be? We have had a couple of stinking hot days recently. And she used to be the boss lady in the coop and now...

Yeah they should be fairly close to laying so might start prepping their nest boxes (we've had them covered up so they don't sleep in them). The jumping is never at us directly it's only when we are walking away or when they can hear us talking, so think it's more of an attention thing. The...

We've had them from 1 week old. Hand raised and very cuddly when they were little. Only in the last 2 weeks have we noticed a bit of a change in them. Not major but noticeable. Also the weather has started to get a lot hotter as we go into Aussie summer. Could this affect their moods? Love them...
