I have a chicken that has a broken toe. Lilly is my 6 month old EE and loves to be held/coddled. I was watching my brother's grandson yesterday for a few hours and he picked her up when I went into the barn. I heard her squawk and went running around there to see what happened. Apparently, she...
That's good news. I've heard about the 'ooops' or 'fart' eggs before. Good to know that everything is good afterwards. My 6 girls should be ready to lay around the beginning of February. I'll be watching out for this. Thanks for the update.

My 'girls' will be 8 weeks old tomorrow (10/28). That should put them at the early egg laying age somewhere around late January to mid-February. I know that the egg laying age varies from species to species and bird to bird. And I know that the amount of light, natural or artificial, is...
I put a couple of blocks and a small wood crate for them to climb on. They really seem to be enjoying the amount of space they have to run around. Makes me happy to see them happy.

Yesterday (Sunday) was moving day for my girls. They are 6 weeks old (tomorrow). They lived inside in the back bedroom for their first 2 weeks, then moved to the garage for the next 3 1/2 weeks. I just finished enclosing one of the 12 x 12 stalls inside the barn for their new home. While my son...
No, I put the small section of newspaper down at the advice of a friend. He said to put it down and sprinkle some of their starter crumbles of it and just watch. It was funny to see them run over right after they saw/heard it hit the paper. And to watch them scratch for it. It was so cool to...
I have read every post of this thread. And I do understand that in his opening post Jetpad stated that the county permit office "really didn't want me to put a coop on my property". My suggestion has nothing to do with the 'authorities' but with the one(s) that might report him to the...
I have some banana at home so I will try that tonight. Here's a couple of pictures of the 'mash' I made them.
I let it sit for about 30 minutes after adding the water.
Everybody seems to love it!
Probably made a little too much...
Nap time after getting their tummies full.

The quote above is from the OP (original poster). Everyone that has kept chickens knows that you will be able to hear them within 150 feet...at some time or another. And if one neighbor finds out, then everybody will find out. Now I don't know about everybody else, but I would rather get in...
I hope she doesn't cause any trouble for you. And I hope that the regs will be relaxed soon for you too. And, I wonder that if she were to get an invite to a personal Coop de' Tour that she could see how much time, effort, and love you put into it. Maybe she would 'relax' also. Know that we are...
Jetpad - I really hope that you don't have any trouble with your neighbors. That is a very fine set-up that deserves to be shown off. Good luck and keep us posted...
