My feeder pigs have been eating my chickens...3 in a month. I cant afford to keep losing them. Not free ranging my chickens isn't an option because their coop is designed for them to only sleep in, so its very small. So I moved the coop today (very laborious) about 300 feet away from the...
I have 3 roosters for 12 hens, I know too many, but the head rooster is aggressive towards me sometimes and aggressive towards everyone else all the time. I have tried everything from lightly kicking him around the yard to holding him til he gives to holding him by the feet. Im not a fan of most...
Thank you all. Turns out it was an owl....a very large owl. It had broke through the net I had as a roof.. it was caught in the act but not before it beheaded another chick. Fixed the roof...hopefully all will be well.
Hmmm, I didnt think we had weasels in Florida. Ive lived in the florida country all my life and have never seen or heard of them around. I guess a coon could have made his way in if they climb. Guess I need to go buy more chicken wire and put up a scarecrow. Thanks for the help.
All the bodies and heads were still in the coop this morning. My coop/run is buried 6 inches down and nothing dug under. The only openings more than a quarter of an inch are 5 feet up. The roof is mostly covered. What would have done this and not eaten them?
Thank you for the answers! In the past hour, two chicks have fully hatched and one is already disconnected from its egg. They are trying to stand but in the process they are knocking around the other eggs quite a bit....I guess that's just nature. Thanks again for the advice, the incubator will...
I have one chick unzipping right now on day 20 in the incubator. My other 30 show no signs of piping either internally or externally. Question 1. With such a large number of incubated eggs is it at all strange for only 1 to be so far ahead of the others? 2. If and when this first chick fully...
I'm building a new coop and run for my chickens (larger than the last". The coop itself is going to be 8 long, 4 high 6 deep.....Im wanting to attach the nesting boxes on the outside of the coop (still fenced and covered). My question is, will I get better production if the boxes are within the...
Awesome, thanks so much. Ill check their crop tonight. And they are a couple of months old the guy I got them from (who is very experienced) said they should start laying within a coupe weeks and they just finished molting.
Should I still try the sugar trick if they aren't chicks?
I got my chickens 2 days ago, Barred rock. The first day they seemed to adjust ok and were eating and scratching quite a bit. Today, all day, I havent seen them eating or drinking at all. (Doesn't mean they haven't I just haven't seen it) I put some raw eggplant by their food and it has also...
