    Button Quail Hatch

Thanks for the response! I have tried a few times with the mama, but she wants nothing to do with being tamed. She ignores all food near her, even wriggling meal-worms, if anyone is anywhere near her, no matter how long we've been holding her. I'll have to get some pics. How are yours doing?

    Button Quail Hatch

Thanks for the response and advice. The mother hen is not very tame at all. We got her in bad shape from a poor breeder so I am worried about stressing her out. I'll take it slow then.

    Button Quail Hatch

Hooray! Against apparently all odds, my femal Quail decided to brood on some eggs after nearly a year of ignoring them. Surprisingly, she stayed on them and they just hatched last night. Pretty cool, and my kiddos are ecstatic about it. Which leads me to my question... When should I start...

Chicken genius needed to tell me what I have here!

If anyone could help me out with this I would greatly appreciate it. I'm pretty new to chicken ownership and I don't know what this little black hen is. She lays a cream-colored egg every day or so and she is rather small (see the photo of her next to my Delaware hen). She has some interesting...

    Button Quail Setup

Thanks Spotsplus. My original plan was just for a single male and female, but the guy I bought them from brought a few extra for me to look at so I'd have a choice. When I saw the poor shape they were in I just decided to take them all. The coop is 4'x18" so I'm hoping there's enough room for...

    Button Quail Setup

Haha. I hear you. I find that the topsoil does a pretty decent job of composting it a little bit, but it's still a constant battle.

    Allow myself to introduce...myself

Hello all. I'm relatively new to the urban chicken scene. I used these forums extensively while planning my foray into this lifestyle and decided it was time to formally join. I live in Charleston, SC and have 2 Delaware hens. We also have 4 button quail. Looking forward to meeting some of ya'll.

    Button Quail Setup

I'm new to the button quail scene and was hoping to get some input/advice. Here is a pic of my setup. We have 1 male and 3 females. The substrate is gardening topsoil. Is this setup going to lead to these quail laying and brooding? Thanks in advance!
