South Georgia Chicks
I am attempting to get my page started here. I have uploaded 2 pictures of my chickens. My adventure with chickens began in April 2006 with 25 bantams from Ideal Poultry. I think I stll have about 14 of the original chicks and we have had lots of little ones !
Here is a...
I have an OE bantam rooster who has decided to " separate " himself completely from the rest of my flock. I know I have way TOO many roosters - 5 - with about 19 hens...But since early January he roosts outside and never goes even close to the others. I have an enclosed pen and attached coop. I...
I'm not sure if this is the best place to post this question, but here goes.
I have a flock of bantams that I got 3 yrs. ago this month. I haven't brought in ANY new chicks since that time. I am not trying to maintain any certain breed or anything but is it bad to not introduce " new " blood...
Obviously, there is a problem here and I don't know how to fix it. Everytime I type the 3 letter word for the objects that hens lay, the word ROOSTER aappears on the screen/post.
Can anyone tell me what's wrong ?
I just noticed a " typo " in my question about egg size the other day... here it is,
I now have 2 small white hens ( about 6 mos. old ) who I think have started laying robin size rooster !!! I think they are Japanese bantams white black markings on the white.
Does anyone know if hen size and...
My entire flock of chickens are bantams. I got 25 bantams in March 2006 and still have most of those along with " new" ones of course. Some of my bantams are bigger than others and I have 3 golden hens ( can't tell them apart ! ) that have been good layers.
I now have 2 small white hens ( about...
I have always that the best time to catch them is when they're roosting. BUT, if we open the door they get really squawky and I know if I grabbed one they would FREAK out !
We need to grab about 7 !! I guess there is no way but to try it.
I have all Bantams and a few silkies. One of my black silkies is the champion broody hen of all the others. When she goes " broody " some of the others ( one of two ) will try to sit on the SAME nest with her...I have let them hatch out several clutches in this manner, however, I have 17...
Not so fast, eggchel...I still don't have it figured out ! I didn't know I was posting directly to the page.
At any rate...maybe I'll get the hang of it soon.

Here ( I hope ) is a another picture of some of my chickens and chicks. They were born in January and I didn't think the " broody " hens ( 2 ) would be successful...but I was wrong !
They sat on about 10 eggs and only 4 hatched. One of the baby chicks died of unknown causes.

OK, eggchel tried to help me, let's see if I can do it right ! Any ideas about what breed my 3 chicks are ?
I just read the post from nifty chicken ( also trying to help ) and I realized that I had too many
PS
Note the img's there's just one on each end !
I just read how to post a picture and I'm going to give it a try. This picture is of some of my flock with 3 new biddies!

Any ideas on what breeds the biddies might turn out to be ??
Thanks for the great site...

I have never vaccinated my chickens but I know anytime I need to catch one I get them inside the pen and have a large towel of piece of cloth. I " Hem" them up in a corner, if possible and throw the towel around them, especially over their head. This will immediately quiet them.
Good luck ...
