    Strange rooster behavior

I have an OE bantam rooster who has decided to " separate " himself completely from the rest of my flock. I know I have way TOO many roosters - 5 - with about 19 hens...But since early January he roosts outside and never goes even close to the others. I have an enclosed pen and attached coop. I...

Broody hen question, she broke them!

I have always that the best time to catch them is when they're roosting. BUT, if we open the door they get really squawky and I know if I grabbed one they would FREAK out ! We need to grab about 7 !! I guess there is no way but to try it.

Broody hen question, she broke them!

I have all Bantams and a few silkies. One of my black silkies is the champion broody hen of all the others. When she goes " broody " some of the others ( one of two ) will try to sit on the SAME nest with her...I have let them hatch out several clutches in this manner, however, I have 17...

    my bantams and chicks

Here ( I hope ) is a another picture of some of my chickens and chicks. They were born in January and I didn't think the " broody " hens ( 2 ) would be successful...but I was wrong ! They sat on about 10 eggs and only 4 hatched. One of the baby chicks died of unknown causes. abbiejane

dealing with stress, and catching chickens

I have never vaccinated my chickens but I know anytime I need to catch one I get them inside the pen and have a large towel of piece of cloth. I " Hem" them up in a corner, if possible and throw the towel around them, especially over their head. This will immediately quiet them. Good luck ...
