I have two 8 week old chicks and an EE that has just decided to go broody. We purchased the chicks and were trying to integrate with the EE and all of a sudden she decides to build a nest and keep her egg under her. Would this be a good time to put the chicks in with her?
I appreciate everyone's encouragement. And all of the advice! I will do pretty much anything to keep the rest of my girls happy and healthy... (having a live in chicken is definitely out lol)
I've gotten two 8 week old pullets. My worry after reading introducing new chickens is that the Americauna will always be picked on. I have 2 barred rocks, 2 black sex-links and now 2 black sex link mixed pullets. EC is a white and gold Americauna... she's the odd hen out.
I have a city ordinance that doesn't allow me to have roos... boo, I know. My only other option at this point, is to rehome her. She is a little over a year old. She's the most gentle thing and very very timid.
They have an amazing coop with a covered run. Enclosed in 1 inch hardware mesh on all sides (except the bottom). The girls usually free range during the day and are put up at night. EC is the smallest of the 5 now and she is being bullied horribly. I brought her in the house and am keeping her...
Thank you! We have plans to put a bunch of shiny stuff in the yard for when we do allow them out of their house (only when we are home now). Also putting lots of play type things in their house and run.
Our bantam Cochin was killed by an owl this evening - right at dusk. From her neck down was intact. We purchased her with an easter egger and they have been inseparable since last year. We have 4 bigger girls (barred rock and sex link) that don't really pay much attention to Easter. How can I...
It stopped and is scabbed now.
Now I have another question... (first molt chicken mommy) - it's going into the low 30s at night here. With them being almost nekid should I use thebwarming lamp? One girl was shivering earlier.
My poor Hermione. All 4 of my girls are molting (one has a broken pin feather), but Hermione seems to be going through the hardest. Scrambled egg and feather fixer feed. Hopefully they grow in quickly.
Is there anything that can be done for the broken feather?
The left is Easter... bought her from a local hatchery and was told she is an Ameracauba - she lays blue eggs and has a blue tint to her legs - but I'm not entirely sure...she is white with reddish gold throughout and has big puffy cheeks.
This is Penelope, our only bantam and our only cochin. She's my favorite and yes, she comes inside on occassion. She hasn't laid an egg in over 3 months. She's happy, eating, foraging, seems extremely healthy other than not laying... is this normal for her breed?
There have been a few Hawks that have seemed interested. We have possums, black rat snakes, and raccons in the area. I've noticed some really large rats too.
At some point today something got ahold of a few of our girls. I'm not sure what time it was as we were not at home. We got home after dark to find the girls scattered throughout the yard. They usually go into their house at dusk and we go to close them in. They almost refused to go into the hen...
I have a 16 month old black sex link that has started randomly screaming at my son and I. She is laying normally and it seems like she screams at us when she is taking a dust bath... I'm not sure if she is trying to go broody or just doesn't like us disturbing jer bath time...
