    Two late hatchers...when to help?

ooof, Amy you would HATE my house. LOL I raise chickens, ducks, rabbits and cows all for meat eggs and milk. This is one reason I don't name my animals... you don't name food. I respect your opinion, but in my opinion the supermarket may not always be there for me.

one hen laid in the yard today

I had the same issue with the blemish spot on my girls egg. I thought I was fine with the layer feed and then four eggs in a row had that spot that was super easy to break by just pushing on it a little bit. it was always on the end too. So I started giving oyster shell in a small dog bowl that...

    SICK DUCKIE HELP!

He needs to stay warm and hydrated. I know that's difficult but if you can even get a small syringe down to his crop and hydrate him that would be helpful. I had a duckling that this happened to just last week, his was trauma induced though. He was a wild duckling at a farm down the road and his...

    adoped duck breed

So I had a co-worker whos daughter bought an easter duck from an assorted duck bin. Of course like many people she had no intention of raising it she just thought it was cute (groan). So co-worker asked if I would take it off her hands (her daughter got a stern lecture) as I raise Muscovies and...

    Hand Washing

Ive never had this exact problem, however I find that if I fry my eggs and eat the runny yolk without washing them thoroughly first then I can get diarrhea. If I wash them completely then I can cook them any way I want and have no issues. May be the same thing who knows.

    Devastated, please help!

I feel your pain. I had a chicken and rooster cross the fence the other day and before you know it my dog snapped both their necks and just "smiled" at me looking proud. I wanted to cry and yell all at the same time but I know its just instinct. My chickens now stay in their run/coop all the...

Various Necropsies - Contains Very Graphic Pictures!

I had a Bobcat attack on my ducks one day... it was awful. looked like the hawk attack one but wider and cleaner cuts and ripped tracheas on three of the five. when I found them four were dead and one was alive but his intestines were hanging out dragging behind him through a 5 inch gash... I...

    Duckling has weird bult???

I second (third) that opinion. It is the umbilicus. Two of my five newer hatchlings had it very obvious like that in their first few weeks... the other three didn't. Leave it alone and it will fall off/heal on its own, no worries. Welcome!

    duckling identity crisis

Awesome thank you. They do know eachother and they get along fine, like I said they all sleep in the same house at night and they seem to get along. But I will wait a while to put her out in the yard again. Maybe she will just be my chuck for life. :)

    duckling identity crisis

Okay... so I raise ducks and chickens. At night they all get locked in the fowl house together (they do very well together actually) and during the day the ducks have free range of the yard and pond while the chickens get the fowl house and the 10'x20' run. (dog kills the chickens but not the...
