Yesterday afternoon day 20, i was pretty discouraged thinking we werent going to have any hatch this time...I had discovered one of dear grandsons had turned the heat up to 108 for several hours around day 12, but kept on hoping and praying for the best. Last night we started hearing cheeps and...
The power came on a few minutes ago so it was only an hour but the temp reading said 91 degrees inside the bator. The eggs felt warm though when I just turned them. Going to bed and hope and pray for the best.
I did cover and wrap it but covered the top holes I will go back and see if I can wrap it differently. Seems like it would an easy way for the last heat to escape.:( thank you so much
Our power just went out here! I' be got to search on here what to do! The power company says about two and a half hours.. Will my bator hold the heat that long if the room is shut up?
I added more eggs a day later, so now we have 25 in the LG bator. I forgot to mention in my initial post that we will have barred rocks/buff orp mix too. Hatch date April 21 or 22. No fan. No Turner. I set my phone timer to go off every 8 hours to turn them myself. And an electric heater set to...
I just put 17 eggs in my LG styrofoam bator tonight.I might add a few more tomorrow just to increase my odds and the FUN. This is my first attempt this year. I did one incubation last spring with the same bator. Hoping to hatch out Black Australorps mostly but a couple of buff orps. Last year I...
welcome! we just started in March with Australorp eggs from our local hatchery. It has been a very good experience for us and our three grandsons. Hope you come to enjoy it too.
That is good to know. Thank you! If I only had a bigger chicken coop, I would be tempted to start another batch tomorrow! What fun for this Grammy and grandkids! The 13 are doing very well in our makeshift brooder.
AmyLynn2374, thanks for the encouraging words and advice about the eggtopsying. I did the dreaded eggtopsy yesterday. Of the three non Hatchers, one was still a yellow yolk so I might have missed that it was clear. The other two had down and looked developed. The was quite a bit of liquid...
We had a 76% success rate - not because of my intelligence, but because of finding and reading helps here on BYC and also some advice from my mom who has done this several times through the years. I hope it will help other newbies.
We chose our bathroom to do our incubation experiment. It is...
I just finished my first hatch, so I am new too. You didn't say what kind of bator you are using. Another thread on BYC recommended 100- 101 for a Styrofoam bator. If that is what you have, it may take a little longer. I hope it goes well for you.
Wow! I was way off too! It makes me grateful for all the great info on BYC that helped this newbie with a first-time hatch of 76% in a still air Styrofoam bater. I am sure that the results would have been dismal without BYC! Our Aussies started popping out on Monday and I think I can safely say...
