I have a broody hen which we put fertilized eggs under her (we have no rooster). She is doing great. My question is do I need to physically move her off the nest so she eats and drinks?? She has free access to both in the run. I never see her move !!!

No parasites - she just turns around and picks when it's red - which picking causes - and she picks more. Thanks!

I have also found soft shelled eggs in the poop tray about 3-4 over the last 2 wks. Not sure if a new chick doesn't know where to lay or they wont because there is poop in the nest.

I use sand in the run and PDZ with a little DE under the roost in a roost pan. It pulls out and I scoop just like kitty litter - every 2-3 days. I rake the run every 2-3d too and then sift out the big stuff.

Do your chickens "empty" the feeder by scratching it out?? I keep finding the entire PVC load on the ground - like they stand there and scratch the entire load onto the floor???

Yes 1/2in and no room from the door - snug and tight! It seems the only way this can be happening is if one of the hens stands there an scratches out the entire hole until its empty. I don't understand how he can get a foot in there!!
