We provide good quality feed with oyster shell free choice, always.
I have already stuck my finger into her cloaca (spelling???) I can touch the egg and actually had my finger hooked down around. At least it felt that way. Because I am unsure of the anatomy and I didn't want to do anything...
Hi all,
Last Sunday I purchased a silkie about 1 1/2 yrs old. She did not lay all week and I wasn't too concerned since it is the time of year for moulting and she was recently moved to a new home. Several days ago I was holding her and I could feel an egg inside her abdomen. I have not...
These aren't from Cackle that I know of. I have used them in the past and those experiences were great. I was very happy with the chicks that I received. These 3 girls came from My Pet Chicken - not a good experience. I ordered 8 chicks all pullets and I received 3 roos and 5 pullets. One of the...
Good luck with yours. I was surprised that these girls are smaller than standard size chickens but not bantam size. Just somewhere inbetween are yours the same way?
I will let you know we have an egg or the dreaded crow.
That is really interesting about the color change after the molt. I can't wait to see what happens here. My lil one is pretty social and acts normal to me, I don't see any difference between this one and the others, personality-wise.
Thanks everyone for your replies.
So the general thought is that this a pullet.
I'm so glad cause I have 3 dead ringer boys that I have to re-home.
2 giant cochins and 1 buff brahma they are very nice looking with great personalities and I hate to let them go but I can't keep all these boys.
So...
Hi All:
This 4 month old is from a hatchery so the colors are all wrong. I ordered all pullets but you know how that goes . I know the coloring is more like that of a male, I have two lovely females and they look completely different than this one, however, I am new to this breed.
I don't see...
Hi All:
I have a mystery chick who was suppose to be a pullet, ya'll know how that goes. I could clearly tell that he was a roo at 3 weeks. He is now a few days short of 8 weeks old. The place where I purchased him from only has two breeds that he could be from: giant cochin or marans. I have...
Hi The Cochin Coop: so I am guessing that you are using the Frontline drop-on? How much are you using and how often?
This might be cost prohibitive for me with 30 some chickens. I usually just purchase the $50 Eprinex which is the same as Ivermectin but without the longer egg withdrawal. It...
Fancy Feathers: I wouldn't worry. We lived 2 hours north of where we do now and never had this problem. I feel like the problem we have is tied to our new location and property. It's just a matter of us finding out what will work here and then getting a handle on it and doing the maintenance...
Thank you Rachel, lovely ideas. When we first started with chickens we were given 2 Speckled Sussex hens. They were lovely and very sweet to us but a bit bossy to the other chickens. :-) I loved their coloring. And the Orloff, I was just looking at them recently too.
Thanks for your ideas.
