thanks you for your response. They are six different breeds, I will not give up hope that they will start again. I know they are warm, plenty of light, and spoiled. You give me hope.
I have 6 hens age 3. they have always been good layers. But stating in August they began to reduce and have not laid an egg since the end of September. Their coop is heated and lighted. Any thoughts? Live in mid west so not terrible weather.
Thanks for all the good thoughts. It probably is just the winter and a coincidence. Makes me feel better. Last winter they slowed but never stopped laying. They are older now.
I was gone and the person watching my flock of 8 hens (2 years old) didn't buy the right feed. He bought regular poultry feed and not layer feed. that was two weeks before i returned. then i did realize what had happened for another 2 weeks. I have not have an egg in over 3 week. they have...
That has happened to me. one time they had a secret nest. The other was when the days and nights were extremely hot - 95-100 during the day and not much better at night.
Thank you. Considering the false and untimely information that the administration is giving us about this pandemic and the fact that chickens have caught other types of coronavirus, I wonder. But for now this is helpful.
I have a flock of 10 hens. They are wonderful. However, Toad, flies - high. I have raised the fence twice, but she just looks at that as her new challenge. So i guess i will resort to clipping her wings. Has anyone done this and would be willing to tell me how? Thanks
I have 10 hens that have just begun laying. Each hen is a different breed. I would like to install a camera to record which hen is laying which egg. Has anyone found a good camera set up or have advice?
Thank you,
A friend's husband created an electric coop door opener/closer for her coop so that she would not have to be there in the AM and PM to open and close the doors. Her chickens have no problem with it and they set the timer to change with the season/light.
Unfortunately, he is a handyman and...
At what point do you start giving your pullets any treats and what do you give them? or is it better to wait until they are full-sized hens?
thanks, Kuku
I have 5 hens that are 3 years old. I also have 4 pullets that are now 6-7 weeks old. at what point can I put the pullets in with the hens? and is there some recommendation about how to do it?
thanks, kuku
There has been an outbreak of Salmonella in our area and we understand that CDC has tracked it to a commercial egg operation. However it has raised in my mind how I handle the eggs from my flock. I see so many contradictory pieces of advice: wash immediately and refrigerate; don't wash...
I have 4 hens, since birth 18 months ago. I introduced two new young hens (one year old and laying) into the group. one was a Rhode Island Red, the other an Easter Egger. Well the RIR is/was a flyer. before night the first day she had flown over the run walls numerous time. BTW -none of the...
I bought two chickens (supposedly about 4-5 months old) from a local farmer who raises chickens for eggs. The coop where the chickens were was full of a variety of hens and roosters. The owner thought the chickens were all buffs, or barred rocks or easter eggers. I know this is not a buff or...
