Thank you for your detailed response, I'll definitely look into metal and stick with opaque paneling either way. I'll read your articles as well!

    Corrugated Plastic roofing in Tx

Ugh I do that so much! But I'm the most knowledgeable chicken person in my circle so I didn't have anyone to tell me. Thank you.

    Corrugated Plastic roofing in Tx

Planning a three sided coop/run in North Central Tx. I'm considering corrugated plastic sheet roofing over the whole thing. I was curious if anyone knew if having the run entirely shaded could affect the girls' egg production? And in the interest of mitigating the Texas summer heat as much as...

Welsh harlequin ducks, all girls maybe?

Thank you all for your input. I think I'll try to voice sex them when I put them up for the night. Because I let my Muscovy raise them, they aren't particularly trusting. She's as suspicious as they get lol. But im slowly winning everyone over with treats. I would be really happy with a trio or...

Welsh harlequin ducks, all girls maybe?

Thank you, that's what I was thinking too. I was really hoping someone else who kept WH would weigh in. There's no mallard green feathers on any of them... yet. Really hoping it stays that way. It would really help balance my flock dynamics.

Welsh harlequin ducks, all girls maybe?

Okay so I picked up a few day old ducklings back in May for my poor overzealous broody Muscovy who unsuccessfully sat on 25 eggs in late winter. (I think she realized her mistake as she's currently attempting to hatch a clutch of just 1 lol). Anyway she ended up being the proud mother of three...

    Texas

I dont think I've introduced myself as a fellow Texan yet, but I am one, and quite proud of it. I'm in the greater Waco area. My chickens live in China Spring (just north of it) and I live in Hewitt (just south). And I'm not a fan of our local HGTV stars. I have a few ducks, a few full grown...

Wanna help me figure out what I got? (Chick Pics)

Well they will be loved regardless. Pretty sure I saw 5 toes and jumped the gun lol. So my newest ones come from hoover and I've got 2 bantams one black (maybe silkie lol) and one clean legged splash Of some kind. Then two "assorted heavies " my kids picked out.

Wanna help me figure out what I got? (Chick Pics)

Okay now I have wing pics for everyone, and I may have picked up 4 more chicks while I was out today... I found a little black bantam with black feet and feathered legs and 5 toes... no apparent Crest but I'm kind of holding my breath for this one to be a silkie lol I really wanna be one of...

Wanna help me figure out what I got? (Chick Pics)

Sorry for the confusion there are 5 babies total two white feather legs, and the little hawk looking one has feathered legs. The black one and the almost purple ish white one are clean legged. I can get pics of the wings extended but it will be a little later today.

Wanna help me figure out what I got? (Chick Pics)

Muscovy Drake in North Central Texas (Waco Area) free to good home.

He's a good boy, we just dont have the girls for him. When he isn't trying to mate anything smaller than him, he's gentle, quiet, and just slightly standoffish. Unfortunately his desire to reproduce has him terrifying the rest of our yard.

Wanna help me figure out what I got? (Chick Pics)

So I bought some Bantams so my adopted stray bantam roo can hopefully have some girlfriends. (Not sure he gets what he wants from our full size hens lol). I didn't go looking for anything in particular other than kind of hoping I'd find a silkie. They're from an assorted bantam bin. The feed...

Duck eggs under mama, is this a pip?

Okay thank you, I just want them to hatch SO BAD I knew we were probably jumping the gun a little... as I mentioned it was a surprise to us that she was even fertile because I thought she was a mule. So we weren't exactly counting days but you can see the eggs are full without candling at this...

Duck eggs under mama, is this a pip?

Okay thank you for your response, I'm not certain myself. My sister is with the nest and sent the pic, if it's damage, might the duckling still survive? Like you can see the whole baby through the shell in person, cant get it to show as well on camera but if would be such a huge bummer if we...

Duck eggs under mama, is this a pip?

So is this a pip? I've got two eggs under a muscovy that look like this out of a clutch of 15-20 there's growth in the others as well. There's just two with what I think are pips. I haven't had eggs hatch since I was about 6 years old and I didn't expect this batch. I honestly thought mama duck...

    Duckling Thread!

Thank you, i have 3 Americaunas, a dominique, and what I believe is a blue orpington, but the dominique and the fluffy gray one came from the same farm as the mystery ducklings. She didn't even know what her WHs were and while her whole horde had names and were well taken care of, she didn't...

    Duckling Thread!

The top one is the little brown i got from the farm. My kids named him/her ghost. It's considerably smaller than the other 3. Same age as the large yellow one. (2 days between hatches i think) she had a few WH, i saw one buff, a ton of cayuga and rouens, and a couple of mallards and muscovy so...

    Duckling Thread!

These are my duck babies, first year in several that I've been able to cave and buy feather babies. I REALLY wanted a WH baby. Didn't want to deal with shipping and the farm stores around me mostly order from Ideal, which is cool cause it's practically local, but they don't do welsh harlequins...
