Thanks for asking about the little chick, guys. The umbilical cord fell off and it seemed okay with that. It ended up having curly toes. I made it corrective shoes out of Band-Aids but some time between 5 and 7 this morning it died. I guess it just wasn't meant to survive after all.

Good luck!
I wrapped our little one snuggly in that warm cloth and put her back in the bator. She seems just fine. A little fighter. Maybe I'll name her after a boxer or something.
A parade? Lol
Well, I helped it. The veins all seemed drawn in and we r going on three days so I figured I better try. It seems okay, but at the bottom, which was the last bit I removed, it has this thing hanging out of its belly button. Should I clip it and free it? It seems to want free...
Sure thing! Buddy went on a little about how they are supposed to be from good lines, so here's hoping. :).
So the color when they are young doesn't make any difference?
Thank you. There were 12 originally but only 9 made it to lockdown. I credit the shipper, a friend from a few states over. They did a great job packing them.

Hi. I got two Rhode island red chicks fromna friend. They said they were heritage and, not knowing much about the breed I came here to read up. Long story short, I gather that there are more than one type of Rhode island red. One of my chicks is really light and one is darker and has the...
Okay I tried making the pip hole bigger and did see some blood. I was ready with the corn starch so I am very thankful for you guys.
Oops! Hit reply to soon. I stopped and took warm water on a cotton swab and moistened the bottom part of the membrane again and the veins seem to be receding...
Thanks everyone for the advice and well wishes. We just got back home and the little thing is still in there. It's moving but still not chirping in any way. There is a constant clicking sound like it is tapping the shell but I can see the beak so it isn't, unless it's doing it with its feet...
"When the O2 level goes down, and the CO2 level goes up, the chick actually gets a bit depleted on oxygen, which is a necessary factor to initiate the actual hatching process. When the chick becomes anoxic, she starts the thrusting movements that give her the ability to push with both feet at...
