The eggs on the outside were really cold. It was 15° here this morning but they were in bedding and a coop with a heat lamp. She wasn't laying on them and didn't even come back in the coop once I walked out with the eggs. She's been sitting on a fence all morning. The eggs warmed up surprisingly...
Last night sometime my broody hen left her 18 eggs. This morning they were all cold so reactively I just put them in an incubator. Is this a wasted effort or does anyone know if there's still hope?? Was gonna wait and candle them once we got some heat going through them again. Please advise.
We intervened in a natural hatching last night where for almost 24 hrs the chick hadn't made any progress as far as breaking free. Anyways, chick was helped out except the latter half of it so he could 'do it' by himself. At 9pm last night the shell was still attached by a small fiber (umbilical...
It is sad watching them. I have a D'Uccles that is doing the same thing but her eye is foaming up. Is that normal? It's only these 2 chickens doing it out of about 40.
Good luck with your babies!!! Have you ever heard of guinea eggs are good eating? I have 3 hens and no cockerels now :-( so the eggs aren't being fertilized and I feel they are being wasted.
Thank you Kymm!!!
Well today I tried introducing them to their siblings BUT Moma went crazy on my babies and started pecking their heads like GET OUTTA HERE, so I rescued them back and put them back in the house.
They are just skittish now of even me, mean Moma!!!
So sorry for your loss...
I followed some good advice from here and on the internet it was very helpful and a comment that was said is so true too was if you feel uncomfortable doing something then it probably isn't right anyways, which proved to be true on one particular egg where it was apparently too soon to be...
That's what one website had said to do to soften the shell up more so they could pip all the way around easier. Maybe it was a bad choice on my part but it seemed logical at the time. Definitely a lesson learned.
I too just found out what an ovation was when I had posted on someone's picture saying with the animal was thinking. Super cute thread! I get tickled all day! BYC is MY Facebook!! Lol. Less drama too!
I didn't know a Moma would kill a late bloomer!! Even if it was coming out fine...
Love your story! Here's a product of incubating vs throwing out guinea eggs that weren't in their supposed timeframe of 28 days. We kept them a little longer after candling them and seen movement. Out of 21 eggs 19 made it!!!
Well sadly 3 of my 5 eggs made it. One of them was chirping but then the next morning was gone. I had them wrapped in a warm rag in the incubator tray.
