it has been in the 90s for over a week in upstate ny, and 1 of my 2 sex links is laying an egg that has alot of hard pimples on the shell, I'm hoping its just heat stress, any suggestions?
i had the exact same problem, i have 2 sex links, I read somewhere that
Tums was the answer, they do not eat the oyster shells. I gave each one a broken up Tums and then put a crushed tums in their water until I was down to once a week, problem solved. Let me know how you make out.
the othe day I went out to the ccop, I have 2 red sex link hens that give me 2 brown eggs almost every dayl, except the other day, one brown one and one white egg that was smashed. any ideas?
I have a 30 gallon barrel with a spigot which I would use to make a maure tea, does anyone know what the ratio would be, of course I would put the manure/compost in a cloth.
I'm new to my 2 sex links hens, but just about everytime I go out to the coop I find something new, small eggs, jumbo eggs, one small egg, one jumbo egg, you get the picture..................I just keep a journal, I believe your hen laid 2 eggs, since she is new to laying she probably did'nt...
no she does not do this as a business, she works at a local feed store and has a few of her own hens, which she will keep seperate from my hens i'm not sure what the going rate is.
would it be ok to tie a wild bird suet block in the coop for the chickens to entertain themselves with. I'm not sure if it would hurt them or be to rich for their systems.
I live in the Adrondacks by Lake George I'm interested in using hay bales to use on the exterior of the coop 4' x 6' , I will need 8 hay bales 36" x 18" roughly, I have 2 sex links hens. Any suggestions on what to wrap the bales in, I do not want the bales to get wet and moldy.

she is an 8 month old sex link possibly from the same 2500 that i got my first 4 from, gets along fine with my remaining hen. first 3 got taken by a fox. i removed the eggs. nutrena 16% layer feed with oyster shell . i know its different from what the farmer was feeding, they have theirs blown...
