I'm curious about a roosters fertility because I also incubate eggs. I currently have a small flock, 3 wellsummer hens and a buff orpington rooster. The rooster is at least 2 years old this year. I want to continue to incubate my eggs. I am setting 48 eggs from a friend this weekend, the eggs...
I've tried to find an answer in other threads without any luck so here goes. How long will a rooster remain fertile for? 2 years? Is there a peak fertility window?
I've only had my hens since the fall, I'm looking to add to the number of hens that I keep. As I have several people wanting to buy...
I have been considering getting quail for sometime now for both eggs and meat. I hear so many different reports though. I want to know what I might be getting into before I jump in. If you could go back and give your pre quail self advice about raising quail what would it be?
Are they really so...
I put a wire dog kennel in with my chickens to use as a get to know the flock play pen area. Mine are in an old barn stall though but the kennel is handy because it's east removed
Hi Jenneh85. I'm not sure on an exact "safe" age per se but I do know that if you're able to have an area where the Pullets can safely be seen my the flock without total inclusion into the flock immediately they'll have a lot better chance of not having any safety issues when put in with your...
I have 3 eggs set, the first hatched today. Dad is a buff orpington and mom's a Wellsummer. "She" hatched yellow just a few minutes ago. It looks completely yellow but I'll know more once it fluffs up.
Is there anything I can do for him to help him now? What should I do in the future for frostbite treatment? I'm glad he won't have a fatal complication but I hate that my ignorance is causing him any lasting problems. :(
I noticed yesterday that my roosters comb had a purple tinge and read up on frostbite treatment. I thought I was doing the right thing. I didn't have Vaseline but I did have lubricating jelly only he looks worse this morning and that's when I noticed it's a water based lubricant. I feel so...
Has anyone tried to use chicken nipples for newly hatched chicks, once moved to the brooder? Do you have to start out with the dishes? This is my first time incubating and I hated the dishes in the past with chicks. They always made such a mess. I love using the chicken nipples but I don't know...

I am brand spanking new to incubating. I have NOT had a problem with my temperature but I DO have one with my humidity. I have two hygometers and a thrid on its way. The problem is that the two hygometers I have are reading different levels. When they are low they both read similar but when my...
I have chicken nipples for my water system right now. I have a claw foot bathtub close to the barn to be used as a "pond"for the ducks and I was going to put a water dish outside of the barn for the duck.I don't intend to get any male ducks. We're your chickens and ducks raised together?
Here's the skinny. Can I coop 5 hens, 1 rooster, 1 duck and 1 turkey together? I have plenty of roost space for the chickens and even more roost space on the opposite side of the coop for a turkey and plenty of safe bedded down space for a duck within the coop. I currently have 3 hens and a...
