thank you to all for your responses...even the funny ones!
i've done quite of bit of research online but failed to find a pic similar to mine. i've checked all their bottoms and they all seem normal, thus, it doesn't seem to be a prolasped vent (also in comparison to research.)
i will...
found this in the coop this morning. it was attached to a very soft egg. i have never seen anything like it before. it's very firm.
none of my chickens appear to be ill. all are runny around happy as ever.
thanks for looking. hope someone will be able to advise me on this.
welcome!
i'm new to this as well...just take good loving care of them!
i loved taking weekly pics of them to see how they've changed and grown. so cute, fuzzy, and yellow in the beginning then feathery and true colors appear.
have fun!
hi! sorry i'm a bit late here, but i'm new to raising chickens and just found this post. good to see there are others from Hawaii here.
i'm on the island of Oahu and have 4 RIR/Leghorns - 2 of them have been laying since December and one just started the other day.
we stumbled upon the world...
happy, happy, joy, joy!
congratulations to you and your hen!
my kids love checking the coop for daily eggs and telling everyone about their chickens.
enjoy!
I'm so EGG-cited, Caramel (15 week RIR/Leghorn), laid her first egg(s) yesterday!
I noticed her comb was getting red, in comparison to her sister, and her bottom a bit wide and mentioned it to my family that she might lay soon but my husband said it was too early for her. I found her in the...
thanks for all the advice. i'll try giving them the scrambled eggs and i'm sure they'll love it.
the chicks are outdoors during the day, running free range and are only in the cage at night and this is where i have it lined with newspaper. they just love to peck at it into shreds then eat it...
i'm really new to the wonderful world of chickens and so i have a question...
i have 2, 6 week old browns (RIR/Leghorn) who really like to shred, then eat newspaper. is this common or normal, if not, will the eating of paper harm them?
thanks for your help!
I just built a coop for my chickens (10 weeks old) as they were living inside my home in a huge cage.
How do I get them accustomed to living in the coop? They cried and cried when I put them there the other night that I had to bring them back in the house...they were breaking my heart...
Thanks for the suggestion...however...I have tried to put the food inside the coop, but the birds still strut right inside of it and help themselves to the food. Am I supposed to keep the coop closed during the day when the chickens are out?
I'm very, very new to this as this is my first time...
Hello!
I'm having a problem with other birds (ie: doves) eating the food I leave out for my chickens. My chickens are not cooped up and so they are able to roam free.
How do I keep these birds away. Apparently my chickens do not chase them away...guess they are afraid of them.
Any...
Darn! That's what I was thinking but praying they'd be hens.
Toasty and Hefty are soo easy going and a ton of fun to watch and play with. Now to figure out what we're going to do. Meanwhile, we'll just wait for their beautiful song to appear and enjoy the remaining time with them.
Thanks...
Aloha!
Both my RIR (Toasty) and SLW (Hefty) are about 7 weeks old and I'm wondering if they are hens or roos.
I'm very new to this and haven't a clue. I know it's kinda early to tell but I thought I'd ask anyway cause I can't wait for an egg or a cock a doodle doo!
Thanks for your time...
