    It's below freezing here,

but I want to gather eggs to incubate. Should I just check the hen house multiple times daily? Is it doable?

    Checking hygrometer

I just bought my first incubator. Temperature seems good, but when do I check the humidity? Once a day? What exactly should the percentage be?

    Best strategy for gathering eggs?

I have multiple roos and hens. I want eggs from a specific pair. Obviously I need to separate the two, but how long until I can be sure of the eggs coming from this pair?

Storing eggs in an automatic turner

Hope this isn't too obnoxious a question, but did I read somewhere that while you are gathering eggs to incubate you can store them in an automatic turner so you don't have to turn them by hand everyday? Thank you. I usually let my hens do the work but a friend lent me an incubator and I...

How to gather eggs for incubation?

It's cold here, will the eggs be viable? Should I stalk the chicken house and try to gather them immediately after laid? Or just be patient and wait for the weather to warm up?

    Buff/reds? Lost my thread

I seem to have misplaced my thread so I'll try once more. What do you get when you breed buff hens to red/black/splash roos? Silkies.

    Buff/reds?

Is there a color breeding chart for buff and reds? What happens when you cross them with blacks, blues or splash?

    Breeding silkies

If I have black and buff silkie hens and roos that are red, white, buff and splash what combo could produce more splash?

    What do I have here?

Roo and pullet but what are they? Roo keeps attempting to breed the little one, is she too young? Should I separate them until she is older?

    How do I collect eggs?

I've got three broodies right now. I want to hatch eggs from one particular hen. How do I collect the eggs I want them to set? How long can I gather them? What temp should I store them?

    Any guesses?

What do these chickies look like? I just gave my broody some random eggs.

    Is my hen crowing?

Here is a pic of what I thought was a hen. He/she got mixed up in a group of silkies and was given to me, so I have no idea what it is. Columbian something or other? Anyhow, this little poop started crowing all of a sudden. It fights with my Silkie roo and my Silkie hen. Any ideas?

    Mystery Banty

I should stop buying at TSC. I have no idea what I'm getting.

    Are these silkies?

Bought them at a Tractor Supply. Just a big old bin of banties. I know the black one isn't but I'm hoping the five white ones are.

    I am in disbelief.

I had some pullets staying in a little A frame until they got bigger. This morning my little silkie hen had been pulled through the wire. I had set a catch and release trap because I thought something was prowling around. I caught something, it ripped a hole in the bottom of the trap and...

    Red Comet setting

One of my young Red Comets got broody three days ago. After a bit of trouble I finally got her in a little coop of her own with seven eggs. The coop is a little A frame with an enclosed area, I bought it from Amazon. She seems to need the wired part covered to help her focus. Anyway, I...

    More eggs than hens.

I've got nine hens. On three different occasions I've picked up more than nine eggs. I'm always checking for eggs so I know I didn't forget one from the day before, much less three times. So....1) either the guys are messing with me and putting eggs out (don't think so, they aren't the...

    New member

Hi, I'm remuda. I'm mainly a horse person but with the kids all grown I have more time so I'm back into chickens. It's been a long while since I've had any more that a couple during the summer for pets. I just got 11 three week old Red Comets, waiting for my new (to me) chicken house to...
