thanks for answering!
im going to give him scrambled eggs everyday but i'll stop giving the yogurt.
thx for the great advice, the baby parrot formula is what my dad just went to go get
baby chick looks much much better
I have a 3 week old chick. The dog mouthed him a couple days ago and the chick went into shock. I warmed him up and he started perking up a bit. But his mom doesnt want him so I'm raising him. He likes to sleep in my shirt. But he seems too lethargic. He's eating and drinking, but he mainly eats...
If these eggs dont hatch, she'll definitely get a break, in fact, I wouldn't give her a fertile egg until she shows interest in hatching something again.
My dad's side of the family is all about farming.
That's a good idea rhoda_bruce! Thanks! My grandma will know how to candle the eggs...
Thanks guys!
If these eggs don't hatch, I guess I'll get a standard chicken egg from my grandma's... 1 standard chicken wont be too bad, I guess. (I usually go for the smaller breeds, but all well
My dad thinks some of the eggs are fertile... I won't get my hopes up lol I do get my hopes up a...
I've been worried about Lucy (my hen) not eating, so I've been putting food beside her. She doesn't scream at me because she appreciates that I bring the food to her (free service lol) It's OK if I do that, right? I don't want my baby to go hungry just for these eggs.
ALSO.. I know it's been 4...
Ahh! Sorry I didn't reply sooner, I totally ditched this thread for some reason lol
That is crazy! Maybe the golf balls aren't comfortable to them? But then again... a lightbulb?! WOW!
I can't get any fertile eggs at the moment, otherwise I'd definitely stick some under her. I want to...
I'm pretty sure the eggs are not fertile.. but hopefully maybe 1 is. Lucy, my hen, was off about ten minutes today. I was thinking maybe I should take the eggs and she'll forget.. but as soon as I went to pick one up, it was so warm and I couldn't help thinking what if there's a forming chick in...
She's a bantam
I'll try to post pics but I still need to take some good ones. They'll come though, for sure! She's so pretty, I have to say, she's the prettiest little chick I've had. lol
We decided to keep Miracle, whether she's a roo or not I was hoping she was a hen, but if he/she is a roo, maybe *he can teach my dog a little lesson for killing his sibling! I wish we'd kept our rooster, because I know he could have protected both chicks really well, he would chase my dog away...
Hm yeah good points made.
I tossed some food into the can, my hen got up and ate it hungrily before settling back down. Would she actually be so dumb as to forget where her nest was? That wouldn't be good.. I'm sure she won't forget. If she does, I'll be up early anyway to remind her...

I have my dog leashed next to the can. She doesn't seem to mind, also, since my dog doesn't even know she's in there. She hasn't left the trashcan all day today.. will she ever leave or do I need to toss in some feed? Water might be an issue.. putting a bowl of water in there is enough...
Good luck!
Chickens are great to have around.. don't know what I'd do without mine.
I have 2 bantam hens. One bantam has 1 chick (the other died after being attacked by a dog) and I have another bantam who has gone broody with 9 eggs. I'm hoping she gets at least 2 chicks out of it.
Wait--does to cull a chick mean to kill it?
I'm so sorry, that's really sad.
I hope I never have to do that.. and hope he dies quickly!
Off to Heaven you go little chickie...RIP
I'm thinking one week old. She's getting grey feathers on her wings now. She's also taking more of the shape of a chicken than a fluffy golf ball of a chick
When will she start to become more independent (no more need for warmth, able to defend herself, fly, etc)
Can't wait until she's able to...
Thanks everyone!
She's in a silver garbage can, which is pretty filled up with dirt and leaves. It was for when we raked last fall. It just happened to sit out there. Lucy, my bantam, found it a good place to lay all 9 eggs. It was out in the open but I moved the garbage can under a tree so it...
I was cleaning up the yard. We have an old silver garbage can that just sits there, it's covered in dirt to the very top. Well, on top of the dirt sat my hen Lucy. When I approached her, she screeched at me and her eyes looked really wild. I called my brother and he plucked her off the can...
