    Calling all lakenvelder owners

I have one Lakenvelder and her name is Sabrina. She is a very sweet girl who coos like a songbird, but she is plain nuts and we have the hardest time catching her. If I can swing it, I will get her picture and post it on here. She was about 3 months old when we got her and had light blue ear...

Lost two birds. Any ideas what might be wrong?

We lost our oldest girl back in June. She had been trough almost everything imaginable, attacked by coons, possums, hawks, but always found a way to bounce back and still occasionally gave an egg. I noticed she started slowing down and her comb started getting darker, turning purplish. She...

    Nissan commercial with a chicken

Has anyone else seen this commercial on youtube? Apparently it is a commercial for the z car that ran in the UK. I have laughed so hard over it. However, correct me if I am wrong, but is this not a hen? I didn't see saddle feathers in any of the shots but I am no expert and there are...

Well Guys, The world has one less chicken killin possum.

Good on you. No mercy for critters who kill chickens. I understand they are just doing what they do but that doesn't make your chicken any less dead. There comes a time for us two footed beings to do what we do.

Do you think Silkies are ugly?

I would like to pet one sometime because they look soft and fluffy. However, I don't think they look like chickens. If I want soft and fluffy, I will get a bunny. Know what I mean?

Can anyone tell me what to expect if I got a Penedesenca?

A friend has some Penedesenca (not sure of the color) and offered me some chicks if I wanted them. I wasn't sure if they would mix well with my flock, who are pets. I would only have hens and promised to give any roos back to her. What is the temperament of this bird? Are they good egg...

What do you use VetRX for?

For Rooster Booster I was looking at the Poultry Cell. It seems to boost immunity. It seems like a couple of my girls right now have congestion and sneezing. It came about after our last rain/snow spell and cold weather. I was looking for something to help them get over what has them down...

What do you use VetRX for?

I was wondering what the usage of this product was and where most people get it. Is it prescription only? How about Rooster Booster? I have a hen who is fighting some kind of bronchial issue...has lots of congestion in her chest and is sneezing but no real drainage or other problems. I've...

Lest see your best stink eye!!!!

This was taken through the glass of our back door. It is Cometa, our Golden Comet, who wanted in during a particularly brutal cold snap a few weeks ago. All the girls were camped out in front of the back door as if to say, "Your coop has all the warms, let us in or share!" This was Cometa's...

ACK! The snow is touching me!!!!

Ha! I'm in Middle TN, too (Murfreesboro). My husband had to go today and shovel snow from my girl's run because only the cochins would come out in it. We had an incident yesterday when we let them free range. When it was time to coop up, three of the girls didn't want to trek back across...

We had already named our buff Orpington pullet Sunshine when the name Mango came to me. She looked just like a little mango, but Sunshine had already stuck. So, my suggestion to you is Mango!

    Walmart prices higher than others

I try to stay out of Wal-Mart for many reasons but mainly because if I go in I always spend too much money. There are very few grocery items I buy from there because they don't usually stock the items I use most of the time and their prices aren't so great. My husband makes salsa for sale and...

    What Breed are my girls?

Looks like red sex link to me, too. New Hampshires usually have black tips in their tail feathers and I don't see that on these girls. As stated above, they are excellent layers!

    A coon in broad daylight

Distemper is possible. I have seen coons in the day so I know they aren't always nocturnal but the behavior of this one was what concerned me. Thanks for the encouragement and affirmations. I called the wildlife resources agency for Tennessee and they didn't seem concerned that we killed it...
