OK, I had a Black Copper Marans go broody so I let her keep a few eggs. Honestly, I didn't think she was that dedicated (I had another hen go broody last year, kept track of everything and nothing hatched) so I didn't keep track of the days and I didn't candle them. Three weeks ago I got a...
I have a Black Australorp that is really broody, so I decided to let her hatch some chicks. Here is my question- I put some eggs under her that are Golden Laced Wyandotte (rooster & hen), but some of them are from a crossing of the GLW rooster with a Cream Legbar hen. Any idea what I can...
Please do not misunderstand the tone of my message, it is not meant to be rude or snotty. She needs another chicken (at least one) whether you put her outside or not. It totally unfair to her if you do not.
Are you looking for any specific breeds? Cross breeds? I have a Golden Laced Wyandotte Rooster that is in with Golden Laced Wyandotte hens, Rhode Island Reds, and Black Australorps. I'm in Fallon.
Communication with the seller has not been good. Her website was down for a few weeks. The last I heard was 10 days before Christmas when she finally emailed me about reshipping my order and she said she wanted to reship "started birds" instead of chicks. I emailed her a couple of times...
I got this chick on November 17th. None of the chicks were day old chicks. The Cream Legbars had full wing feathers and the "Copper Marans" had already started her wing feathers, so the youngest chicks were at least a couple of weeks old. So I believe that she was hatched around the beginning...
Yes, the wing looks like it is curling up, but it also looks much smaller than the other wing. Kind of like Nemo, which is what I was thinking of naming this chick. lol
I got this Marans in an order the week before Thanksgiving. It wasn't even supposed to be part of my order. The woman told me that she didn't have the 4 Ameraucanas that I ordered so she sent 2 Ameraucanas and 2 Marans (one black & one blue) along with the Cream Legbars that I ordered...
I have read about color sexing being bred into breeds. Where did you read about the wing sexing being bred into some strains? Do you have a link to some data for this? I read everything I can on chickens, but the internet is a vast universe. lol
Everything I have read says that Wing Sexing does not work for Bantam breeds and works for most large fowl. It was right when I did it on my Rhode Island Reds. I looked at the wings of my Golden Laced Wyandottes and got 1 male and 6 females- which is what I ordered.
From the local Feed store I ordered 8 Rhode Island Reds, 2 Silkies, and 4 Black Australorps. On Feb 25th my Rhode Island Reds and Silkies came in, but my Australrops didn't come in until March 31st and they ordered me 6 Australorps instead of 4. Those were all Straight Run. Additionally, I...
