My current Blue pen is Black Hens and a Splash male. No downside to me ;) I have a few lacing projects going to perpetuate the lacing in blues. I personally dont buy to much into the gold vs silver basing. 1 thing at time!
Don't get me wrong... That seller sucks. :) I've seen those ads for at least a year and even in the reply the seller interchanges Ameraucana and Araucana. I'm thinking she is being purposefully ignorant. I'm sorry this happened to you and hope it doesn't turn you off the breed!
The issue is not the green tint, but rather the the birds pictured are not Ameraucana. However, you purchased them based on the photos post with the ad. I would chalk it up a learning/educational experience for you.
You can't mix Lavender and wheaten and still get Ameraucana. You have 0 chance of getting wheaten or splash from that cross. You would get EEs. Find her a nice wheaten boyfriend :) Actually, I don't know where you located but I might have some male juveniles in wheaten or blue wheaten. I'd have...
That birds is an Easter Egger. It is NOT a Silver (or any other variety) Ameraucana. Looks like black with birchen or gold leaking? Will be a nice boy to make Olive Eggers or EEs.
The "blue wheaten" is not true wheaten coloring, and the grey columbian looking one is not an accepted color. The blue and black pictures are not clear enough to decipher one way or the other, but if they came from the same place, they are probably EE.
There are a couple people breeding that...
Do ypu think that would explain what seems to be an epidemic if people posting White chicks coming from supposed "Blue Black Splash" pens of various certain "breeders"? There were 2 recent cases on the Ameraucana FB and I think a couple mentioned here as well.
I'm not good with white genetics...
Jean, at the Ohio National this past year someone was showing a pullet like these birds as a Splash at the Show. It was a large fowl Ameraucana, pure white with pure black pitches (think like the pain coloration in silkies). It did not look like a splash. This is the second time I'm seeing birds...
Did you get the eggs directly from Pips and Peeps? Because the top two are not Ameraucana. They look like barred rocks... Those are some bright yellow legs!
Also the Lavender does not look lavender on my screen :/
You've got yourself a nice Easter Egger there. They don't breed to a standard, so no way to predict what the color will be. That's one of the fun things about EEs :)
What is going on with the wierd feathers on the blue wheatens neck? Ive never had blue wheaten, so I'm no expert, but it looks like his beard wraps around to the back of his neck? Except there is a delineation between those feathers and his actual beard when looked at from the side?
I've been raising Ams for about 6 years now. I have never had a mean or aggressive rooster until recently. I've always had LF, but several months ago I acquired the meanest little black bantam rooster. So mean. However, definitely not the norm in my experience!
My worst rooster experiences...
I just had to share my wonderful day. Yesterday I got eggs from every pen! A wonderful surprise since my birds have been really affected by this weather. I was beginning to loose hope, lol. Of course, last night it was 8 degrees, so I'm probably back to square one today.
I have the following...
y Henny Hens" url="/t/639656/redwood-incubators-information-help-for-sale-and-wanted/360#post_13049652"]The indicator light bulb blew on my redwood. Does anyone know where I can find a replacement bulb? It's the light on the front that goes on and off when the heating element is on/off. It...
Yellow is recessive, so it will haunt you years down the line, popping up in future generations. If the pullets are related to the male, they could carry the yellow skin and not show it. You really need to be careful with it.
Mine is identical to yours, except the heating element is still through the original guides, and the overheat "sender" is still there. I did have to replace the fan motor, heating element, wafer and indicator light on the front. I was able to find all the parts online. Except im not thrilled...
