I would think that I would end up with "PWL" chicks but the hatchery says that they are hybrids. Here is what McMurrays has to say,
"The most productive meat birds and egg layers available today are hybrids that result from the crosses of different breeds of chickens. These include Pearl White...
i'll ask the owner to send me a side shot. but i was leaning towards a white rock also. she's looking to give him away for free and i've been looking for a white leghorn rooster.
i do the same...
i typically keep the smaller eggs for me and sell the nice big ones. don't get me wrong, often i find monster eggs that will not fit into a jumbo carton so i keep those too. i've been fortunate to get a ton of 18-pak cartons from customers.
so when i start getting way too many...
A couple of my leghorns have been laying soft rubbery eggs. i've been finding them on the poop board first thing in the morning. but by the time i get there all i find is the rubbery shell which just looks like a popped balloon. this has been happening 1 -2 times a week, most of the time i find...
here is my old 8' x 12' shed.
here it is after i modified it with adding ventilation, windows, a nestbox & a dog kennel run.
here it is after i stained it.
i looked into the hardy artic kiwi vine and it sounds almost too good to be true.
grows up to 20', edible grape sized kiwis with a edible skin(non-fuzzy). green, pink & white foliage.

Getting ready to do mine as well...I like that. What color is the stain?
it's the semi-solid stain from benjamin moore, i'll look for the can and see what color it is.
yeah thats what i wanted originally, barnyard red w/white trim. the wife was against it....
so the last thing i wanted to do is get her on my bad side so "we" (she) decided on staining the coop the same color as the deck.
i was very pleased with the end results. i painted the door of the coop...
thank you for the tips on the weight of some of these plants.
the run is constructed of heavy duty chainlink panels. each panel is 6' x 12'. i also used these same panels to enclose the run on top.
i would have imagined that these panel would have supported most vines......maybe i'm wrong.
are the morning glorys a perenial? would they survive the harsh new england winters?
also, i love the deep shade that the squash vine provides. thats exactly the type of shading i'm looking for.
my run however is 6' high and 12' wide x 18' long. so i'm looking for something that would be able to...
does anyone have any suggestion as to what type of vines you are growing over your chicken run for shade.
i'm looking for a vine that will grow rather fast and endure the new england winters. the location of the runn is in full sun for most part of the day.
pictures of your runs with the vines...
yeah, every once in a while i'll find some evidence of egg yolk on a egg or eggs in the nest box. i've never found pieces of egg shells, just egg yolk. a few time i found who the culprits were because their faces & beaks were stained yellow but i have sold those hens since then.
the only time i...
we did have a heat wave for 2 weeks back in july with temps that averaged in the mid - high 90's and with one friday that reached 103, lost 3 birds that day.
they all appear to be healthy. their appetite is still strong. no signs of lice or mites. have not treated them for worms since last fall...
Last winter I was collecting 18-20 eggs per day from 25 hens with supplemental lighting. This spring without supp lighting I was collecting 14-18 eggs per day. This summer i was collecting 6-8 till now, I sold 10 hens a month ago and have been collecting only 2-4 eggs per day from 15 hens.
Not...
yeah i agree...
