    Need help with my drake

I just went out and had a look at his feet again. He has these brownish black lumps on the back of each foot. I understand this is called bumble foot from my reading. The one is about the size of a quarter and the other a nickel. He is in his pond now and seems much happier. But still isn't...

    Need help with my drake

Well I let them pretty much free range all the time. They come in there pen at night by themselves. I have a hill on the backside of my property that they like to go on. I know that they have tripped coming down the hill a bunch of times. So maybe that's where he hurt it. They also go under...

    Need help with my drake

I have looked at it once but it seemed to hurt him so I didn't look too long at it. But there weren't any visible cuts that I saw. I will check again though to make sure. I called my local vet and left a message and they never returned my call. I will try again though. He pretty much will not...

    Need help with my drake

It started about a week ago, but has gotten worse as the week went on.

    Need help with my drake

So I need some opinions. I have 3 Pekin ducks, 2 females and a male. They were doing good until recently when the male had something happen to his leg. He was sort of limping around and then his leg swelled up pretty bad and now he can't hardly walk at all. He will sit in the same spot all...

Are my eggs good to eat?

Yeah they are a off white color. And fairly smooth texture. Basically the size of a large chicken egg but slightly elongated. I'll give them a try tomorrow morning for breakfast and see how it goes. Duck eggs are a little different tasting than a chicken egg right? At least that's what I've...

Are my eggs good to eat?

My Pekins are finally in a regular routine it seems as far as laying eggs. Ever since I adopted out a few males and left 2 females and just 1 male, they seem much happier and are actually laying in the house I made them in a little nest they made from straw. So I got 2 eggs today and I washed...

    Will ducks drown eachother?

Figured I'd update. I was able to keep them separate but they got out and continued to try and mate. So I adopted 3 drakes out today. I kept the 2 females and the biggest but most kind acting drake. He never did the drowning thing or was agresssive. So now it's just the 3 of them. The...

    Will ducks drown eachother?

I had a feeling that's what was going on. I will separate the 3 drakes. Likely will have to adopt them out unfortunately since building them a separate pen isn't in the budget at the moment.

    Will ducks drown eachother?

I have 6 Pekin ducks and there are 4 males and 2 females. I know this may not be the best ratio and I am waiting to see if they start fighting. But when they go in their little pond, sometimes one will get on the back of a female and keep it under until the one goes for air. I'm not sure if...

    Flys Flys Flys

The hardware store had some fly traps so I got 2 of them. So far I already caught some. I will try to find some of what you mentioned and see if that helps. The pen doesn't really smell at all since I wash it everyday and they don't spend all that much time in there. They do a hood job at...

    Flys Flys Flys

It's their cage. Their house is fine. I know that there are some Flys to be expected but I was just wondering if there was a way to cut down on some of them. I will have to try those traps.

    Flys Flys Flys

Well I have had my Pekin ducks (6 of them) for several months now and they are doing great. They love hanging out in the yard and are actually doing a knock out job on some weeds I had in the grass. But in their cage there are Flys that are pretty bad. I keep it clean and there isn't any poop...

New to ducks and need some advice

Mine are a week or so shy of 3 months old. I was amazed at how fast they grew. I think they are just about done growing now. As for cleaning, yeah they do make quite the mess. And in a hurry too. For their outside pen, I had grass and some mulch, but the grass was just turning to mud so I...

New to ducks and need some advice

Well they are still doing good. I'm feeding them the flock raiser now. They love meal worms as snacks. They have been outside full time now for the past couple weeks. Only 2 are quacking so I'm fairly certain I only have 2 females and the other 4 are males. The only sound they make is a...

New to ducks and need some advice

Well they haven't been outside full time yet. I'm still finishing up their house and the roof for their pen. So they are only outside when I am able to watch them. I found that treat thread earlier. I will have to get some stuff for them to try out. Maybe that will be my way of training them...

New to ducks and need some advice

Oh OK. So I have a little but yet before they start laying. I will let them finish off the food they have now and then start them on the flock raiser. Are the niacin levels of any concern anymore? I've given them a couple peas and cut up some lettuce for them. They kind of picked at the peas...

New to ducks and need some advice

When would I expect them to be able to start laying eggs? So if I give them the raiser feed, and then have a sperate feeder with the oyster shell, I can put that in the pen with both the males and females and the males will just eat the feed and the females will eat both? I guess maybe what...

New to ducks and need some advice

Just a little update. The weather is finally nice enough to get them outside for more than 10 minutes at a time. They are nearly full feathered now. Just a little baby fluff remains on their heads. Man do they love their little pond. They dive under and just float around like I'd imagine ducks...

What type of duck is this? And what is up with his neck?

Yeah I've read on here (I'm new to ducks so I read A LOT haha) that the niacin that's in the feed isn't always enough and they may need supplements of it or brewers yeast (and only brewers yeast, not any other kinds)
