I wouldn't believe it, but I saw it with my own eyed :hit
it all started 3 days ago when one of my bantam hens showed up with 9 tiny hatchlings.
needless to say I was shocked. pretty disappointed too. I thought this was over for the year . Any way the very next morning I heard the chicks...
update,
the 3 mommas raising 2 chicks, stole some from a momma that wasn't mindful. It's an absolute free for all now. the chicks are mixing and matching with different mommas.
I'm just rolling with it. :)
everyone is broody here :th
early June, one momma hatched 6 chicks. 1 week later another momma hatched 13.
last week 3 mommas hatched 2 chicks. (3 broodies in one nest but only 2 chicks hatched) they are sharing the chicks so wonderfully
then 4or 5 days ago another momma hatched 12, 3 days...
bad news,
a turtle guy told me that them being dumped by the dump truck most certainly killed them even though the shells were not broken. he also told me they were snapping turtle eggs . he said if by a miracle some hatch that he would take and release them for me.
I just got a small load of sand delivered and it has freshly laid turtle eggs in it.
I know they are fresh because I accidently broke one while raking the sand . No stink, smells like a chicken egg lol.
I don't want to kill them, but the sand is for the kids to play in. Anyone know what I...
it's alive!
I checked 1st thing this morning and it's still wobbly but much, much better :)
it acts like it just hatched. it's watching the other chicks eat and getting knocked around but gets right back up.
thank you all for the good luck:thumbsup
my Japanese hen hatched 13 chicks over the past 3 days
this morning I was checking on her and found one tiny chick laying down barely breathing. I picked it up and it was stone cold.
I brought it in the house to give it a comfortable death . after about a half an hour it started to peep. I...
if you can, put them is pots of potting mix and put them in dapple shade for a week or so. Keep them watered. They should bounce back. I'm no fan of that company either.
Good luck

this works great. but new weed seeds fly in quickly , so you will need to mulch thickly. I use grass clippings and age coop bedding.
happy gardening :)
I have 30 + cherry fountain tomato plants. these are cascading cherry tomato plants. The kind you grow in hanging baskets or tall planters. Right on your deck or patio where your chickens can't get to them
Dark red flavor filled tomatoes perfect for salads or snacking.
I also grow bush steak...
Winter makes me anxious. I get so … Manic?, no , not manic, more like anxious to move down south or something. lol.
I live in NY, zone 5. winter lasts FOREVER here. My DH bought me florescent lights, and got me a big shelf. I got out of control and have sooo many seedlings growing. It's...
Nice shrubs. :thumbsup I also have a small nursery. I had to replace my full sized chickens with bantams. I find they are much less destructive to my plants. I grow more than evergreens. BTW Ducks eat arborvitaes . Just a heads up if you were thinking of getting ducks.
