What kind of turkeys are these?

I agree on the Calico. Turkeys don’t “blend” traits like chickens. They tend to grab recessive and dominant traits and make varieties. If I bred my RP to a Bronze for instance, I would not get a RP with bronze sprinkled in. I would get a Semi Bronze Semi Gray. They would look more like a...

    dwarf marans

I was wondering what you found out about your Marans? I have the same thing except I think I have a male and female, both EXTRA small. Both from full sized stock. The female seems to be slightly bigger than the male. I added photos. They were hatched Jan 5 2018 but are just slightly bigger...

Is it true a frostbitten comb makes a rooster sterile?

I read on Cackle Hatchery that it can reduce fertility because of the pain as it heals, but reduce fertility probably only means that while the rooster is suffering the pain of healing the frostbite, he simply isn’t going to breed as actively as a roo who was 100%. Thus reducing fertility for a...

    Introduction

Hi just a quick introduction! I never did this when I first became a member. I am in Northern Colorado near Ft. Collins. I have about 80 chickens during the spring summer and fall then I process my meat growouts throughout the summer, fall and early winter. Then I carry a flock of about 35...

    Ducks and Ivermectin?

I use 1mg on big birds, 1/2 mg on bantams and pullets and 2 mg on turkeys. I have some big chickens that weigh a lot so sometimes I may bump third to 1 1/4 mg.

    Ducks and Ivermectin?

I use it on my chickens and ducks too...even my turkey. As far as not eating the meat or eggs. There is a 5 day withholding period and I usually double that to be safe.

French Standards for Raising Bresse Meat Chickens

I just bought a dozen White Bresse chicks. I plan to select the best quality males and females for my breeders, then process the rest of them. I looked at the standards and agree it will take a long time to actually get a standard like that into practice. In the meantime, I will be pasture...

    Hatching Disaster

AmyLynn...that was the best article on humidity EVER! Now I understand the why of it all and the practice of marking the air cells so you can adjust as needed. Looking back, I am certain that my air cells were too small as my candling did reveal this. I just didn't know what I was looking...

    Hatching Disaster

I had this happen to one of mine at the end when my humidity plummeted. I tried to allow the chick to hatch on its own but I could tell that it was stuck to the membrane, so I carefully removed the membrane and remaining shell - ever so carefully- I did not remove anything that looked like it...

    Hatching Disaster

I recently placed a dozen of my barnyard mix chicks and 6 I purchased from a seller into my Hovabator. I bought a hygrometer to keep tabs on the temp and humidity, which I monitored frequently throughout the day and night and made adjustment to regularly. I had an automatic egg turner and my...

    Broody Hen Thread!

I had a great hatch with my broody Speckled Sussex hen. She sat on 8 BBS self blue Ameracauna eggs and hatched 6. One chick died, but it was a very small chick. I was so pleased with her. She is such a great mama!
