I did know vaguely that there are state regulations...I figured I would get that all figured out when I had decided whether or not to take them. I guess I thought if theres a will theres a way in that regard!
But...It seems most people think we should rehome them, and I do agree it seems like...
Our lab was always fine with our chickens, but we had to train our husky because she was overly excited about them. She is totally fine with them now. So I don't think it is a breed thing I think lots of labs are fine with them, just depends on if you think your individual dog would be ok...
Hello! Looking for advice about relocating my chickens. I have read other threads about moving flocks, but have some specific conundrums I need help making decisions about. I appreciate you reading while I ramble.
So I'm moving my little family from Wyoming to Vermont first or second week of...
Thank you super helpful! I'll have to start compiling the things I don't already have...surprisingly hard to find things around here (rural wyoming) you would think there would be some good farm stores. Thank goodness fort he internet.
Hello. I posted a few days ago about a chicken acting sick that I ultimately decided to bring inside, after reluctance due to the acclimating to cold weather issue. Well she's been in my house for two days now, I ultimately still don't know what's going on with her, but she seems a little...
I don't know if I responded correctly. Anyway the picture of her poop is a little hard to see because it's on a towel I wrapped around the heating pad. But as you can see it seems small and a lot of white.
Thank you for responding! I really appreciate it.
Her crop feels normal to me. She's not doing any jerky head movements to throw up, didn't seem like her breath is sour.
Her abdomen didn't seem swollen, if anything a little hard. She's always a little smaller than the others though so maybe...
Updating to bump this...
So the hen has been inside all night, I offered her water every few hours and she definitely drank it much more readily after her bath, though she still wasn't moving much to get it on her own. This morning she seems more animated, is drinking water well. I don't know...
Thanks, I'll try gatorade if I can get myself to the store. The water I've been giving her has ACV in it. I should have electrolyte chicken powder on hand, but I don't! I'll be sure to try and force her to drink water every couple of hours.
Sigh...I have a chicken who is in rough shape and need some advice.
I'll give some background info. My chickens are molting and it is getting cold in Wyoming (single digits at night). They've had extra protein (meal worms) access to calcium, scratch to keep them busy, extra shavings in the...
Thanks for your reply. Yeah that's kind of what I figured, they will have to tough it out, with a little help, and hopefully their new feathers will finish growing in soon. It isn't supposed to be as cold this next week so that will help.
I'm too lazy to go take pictures right now but I think...
Hello! Looking for some advice. My hens are still molting, and it is getting to be in the negatives here in Wyoming. They all seem so miserable. Some have more feathers than others. Today I noticed a couple were hanging in the coop looking pretty distressed, and they had some spots of frozen...
Thanks all! She's acting normal so far today so we'll see.
Their diet is mostly organic layer pellets. For treats it's usually yogurt, fruit, or grain cereals like oatmeal or buckwheat. I try to give them vegetables but they usually won't eat them! Except cucumber, sometimes a leafy green from...
Well she had a hard shell egg in her crate this morning. I think she still could be down an egg but I can't keep her inside any longer. Took her out this morning before it was hot, but I'm hoping she can acclimate. I figure better to bring her out today while i can watch to see if she gets too...
Ok thanks. We don't have ac but definitely cooler inside. It would be ideal if the temps would dip a little to help her get back used to the heat but that ain't happening.
Yes, she got a bath yesterday and she laid two within an hour or two. Today I gave her another one about an hour ago. Since...
So Wednesday is when she first got into trouble and Thursday sometime after 3am she laid two. So I'm assuming that was Tuesday and wed eggs but who knows. Then I let her out. Then Friday, we repeated the process and pretty quickly she laid two more, which I thought were Thursday Fridays. Today...
