Help! What is wrong? Egg bound?

So...today I noticed she seemed egg bound again. I caught it as soon as she started acting weird, gave her a bath, and she laid an egg quickly, though I wonder if she is still one backed up so I'm keeping her inside until I definitely see what comes next.

It was soft shelled again! Any ideas why so many soft shelled eggs? None of our other hens are having this problem. They now have oyster shell, which I know she has eaten at least some of. Plus I had given her some of the tums before. Is it just she was working on these eggs before getting the calcium and she's not caught up yet? Or a symptom of a deeper problem, an illness or infection of some sort?

I'll buy done nutridench online since i can't find any locally. Any other ideas?

If she is 1.5years old, then she is getting to the end of her first laying cycle and her body is probably becoming depleted of the minerals she needs to produce good quality eggs. It is not uncommon for them to have a few problems with egg shell quality just before they stop laying and moult. Hopefully the extra calcium you have now given her will help tide her over these last few eggs before her system shuts down for her seasonal restorative break.

Ok that's reassuring, because that is how old she is.

She passed a second soft shelled egg tonight so I guess I'll just keep her inside until she lays one tomorrow morning?

Yes, my Barred Rock was acting strange too a few months back. She was sleeping a lot and her comb was turning blue, then the next morning she laid a soft shelled egg right in the middle of the coop, Then she was acting normal after that, active as is usual. Hasn't happened after that which is good. How old is your bird and the breed? A lot of grass, fresh water and plenty of oyster shells should help unless she isn't taking interest.

So after she laid two more soft shell eggs last night I've kept her inside to see if she would be back to laying a normal today. But still no egg. She clearly feels better but I feel like if I put her back out then tomorrow afternoon we will have to go through the same process.

Any thoughts? I don't want the flock to get weird with her either...but wont putting her back out in the heat where I can't fully monitor what she's doing be counter productive?

Going from A/C to heat will not be good for her. So either determine she needs to be inside for the long haul (until she starts laying hard shelled eggs) then make plans to integrate her back into the flock or keep her outside with the others. You can always cage her outside during the day with her own food/water so it will be easier to monitor her.

Are you soaking/treating her each time she seems to get into trouble?

So Wednesday is when she first got into trouble and Thursday sometime after 3am she laid two. So I'm assuming that was Tuesday and wed eggs but who knows. Then I let her out. Then Friday, we repeated the process and pretty quickly she laid two more, which I thought were Thursday Fridays. Today she hasn't laid anything, she clearly feels fine but her butt still seems hard and she looks like she's pulsating.

Ok thanks. We don't have ac but definitely cooler inside. It would be ideal if the temps would dip a little to help her get back used to the heat but that ain't happening.

Yes, she got a bath yesterday and she laid two within an hour or two. Today I gave her another one about an hour ago. Since she feels better she wasn't as cooperative but I think she's still having issues.
