Help! What is wrong? Egg bound?

She most likely is still having issues. It's concerning that she seems to be "skipping" a day and laying 2. I can only assume that one is pushing the other and this is the only way for her to get them out. Soft shell eggs are extremely hard for a hen to lay, calcium not only helps build egg shells, but can also help with contractions.

She may be at the end of laying for the season, have a shell gland problem or isn't processing nutrients like she should. Hopefully with the extra care you are giving she will straighten out soon.

I'm wondering if going out and getting a bit of exercise might not help her too, especially if she is looking perkier. I would take her out early morning or late afternoon when the worst of the heat of the day is over and let her have a bit of time with the flock if you are able to supervise. Moving around and scratching and dust bathing may help things progress as well as keeping her in touch with the flock.
Definitely keep up with Calcium supplementation.
The other option is to try to induce moult and prevent ovulation by keeping her in the dark for a few days and limiting her food.

Well she had a hard shell egg in her crate this morning. I think she still could be down an egg but I can't keep her inside any longer. Took her out this morning before it was hot, but I'm hoping she can acclimate. I figure better to bring her out today while i can watch to see if she gets too hot or gets bullied then tomorrow when I'll be at work!

That's good news about laying the hard shell egg:)

I think she will acclimate fine if you took her out early, I bet she will be happy being with the others.

Thanks for the update, keep us posted.

WR, Just read someone said spinach stops absorption of calcium . You ever hear that ?
What is OP feeding ?

I have read it can interfere with the absorption of calcium and certain minerals, but I feel like chickens would have to eat a large quantity everyday. If giving a wide variety of fresh greens, veggies and fruit, I don't think a little spinach here or there would hurt.

I don't know what OP is giving:confused:

Thanks all! She's acting normal so far today so we'll see.

Their diet is mostly organic layer pellets. For treats it's usually yogurt, fruit, or grain cereals like oatmeal or buckwheat. I try to give them vegetables but they usually won't eat them! Except cucumber, sometimes a leafy green from the garden. Then they get whatever they find in the yard!
