Thank you, GrandmaBird!
Sorry I've been late replying here, it's been crazy with college classes lately. Ugh. Still haven't found a hen for him, but the gal that gave him to me - her hen's gone broody on 8 eggs. We can only hope!
She won't. She had him and his male cage mate, and when she introduced a hen, my guy went after the hen aggressively. The other roo fell in love with the hen, and... I got this guy. Since he wouldn't play nice to the already beaten up hen. She hasn't got any other birds, and these were the last...
A friend of mine gave me a male button quail recently. He spent his first two days calling for his ex-cage mates, and since then he's calmed a lot. He still calls though.
I've been having a terrible time finding him a hen or two! I'm in Beaverton, OR - and the nearest breeder is almost an hour...

Really? I didn't know this pair even HAD eggs till I got down and looked into the box just so- the hen is keeping them all really close together, inside that box. Not a one has been outside it- that's why I didn't find them till there were six. I kept looking, but apparently I'm blind...
My two Buttons are doing wonderfully. They've finally started making more noise- including both crowing their "Weep weep weep" cry. Today, however, they've gotten even noisier! I can hear them peeping and talking to each other, which I never could before. The male has been making his...
I just joined it... add me if you like? I'm going through the tutorial
I'll PM my FB name, since I don't want to post my full name on a public thread... though it probably doesn't matter? Or if you look up by e-mail: [email protected]
Edit: I joined FarmVille too >.>

Now I know why my little hen stopped laying. She hasn't started up again- I think maybe I stress them too much by reaching in and changing food/water/grit every day.
Blast it- I called and she doesn't have any of it- and did NOT sound keen on ordering it.
When I get paid or Friday (Which ever comes first) I'll just order some from Acadiana Aviaries.

Acadiana was actually the place I was thinking of ordering from online I'll call the feed store that was listed on Mann Pro's site and see if they have the smaller bags first, though. Thank you all, very much!
I would worry about impaction with corn cob, honestly. It happens in small critters kept on corn cob. I've been told they pick and munch, and it swells when it gets wet.

Not that I know of. There are three I know of. I forgot about one of them - I've avoided them since I first got the rabbits, and their off-brand food was not well-recieved. It's close by, too- I'll have to go over there and see what they've got, but it seemed to be mostly off-brand...

Apparently no one markets game bird/chick/turkey starter in protein levels over 21% in bags less than 50#.
I don't know why.
Of course, 20% should be fine as a standard ration.
I can't even find 16-20% in less then 50lbs bags LOL
If 20% is ok, would "egg food" from the petstore work...
I can't seem to find a high enough protein feed- 20% was the highest I've found - in small enough quantities. Two little Button Quail aren't going to eat a 50lb bag of feed before it goes bad, and that is ALL I've seen.
Do they even make this stuff in smaller bags? Or should I just give up and...
I didn't have them- I went out and got them bright and early in the morning. I got them after all the pet stores were closed that first night, so the next day I went and got grit, oyster shell, a waterer, shavings, etc.
I mixed some cat food into the sunflower/peanut/etc bird food, and will...
There we go. Got them grit, oyster shell, millet, shavings, a waterer- I'll be picking up the food shortly.
They also got some crickets. The roo didn't seem to even care or realize they were there- the hen went after them like they were candy O.o They also both went after the grit and oyster...
LOL I'll be doing that tomorrow, I assure you!
Damn the rest- I'll get some enjoyment out of watching these two little ones, and maybe relax a bit. For once!
I hate all these health issues. Why do they sneak up on us like this! *waves fist*

That's quite an accomplishment. You have live birds, eggs, and no food or water.
How did that happen?
I was planning to wait to get them, maybe hatch my own. Then late last night on Craigslist someone posted an ad for these two. No mention of the eggs. Free, no cage or supplies. I...
Quite the weird week I've had! But now I have 2 adult buttons- 1 hen, 1 roo, and a clutch of eggs to boot. I'll need a bigger home for them ASAP.
I'll get a bird waterer tomorrow, and food. I'm still in shock!

Exactly why I figured I'd have to wait. We aren't known for truely bad winters here, but the last few years have been kind of rough, and we ARE known for having an ice-storm or two, so I'll probably end up waiting till early next year- Feb, April, or later.
