Got an adult flock of guninea fowl. What will they do next?

Thank you. I may decide to put them in the barn. Hate to have their nasty scat all over the floor but that's the trade off I guess for the tics. Tics are terrible this year. They don't seem to like me at all. :( Kim

Got an adult flock of guninea fowl. What will they do next?

I have newly acquired a flock of 6 guineas. 1 male and 5 hens. I had them in the barn for a few weeks when it was cold outside. Now I have them in a chicken tractor. I'd like to let them loose because I got them to eat the tics on my lawn. Will they go back into the chicken tractor if I let...

What kind of bird laid this?

Maybe there is a wild turkey hen in love with his domestic male turkey...or the male is a female.

What kind of bird laid this?

This is from a friend of mine who has guineas, geese (they dont' seem to be laying and its small for a goose egg I think)....and turkeys (only one male)....and hens all ove the place. Its very hard ... the egg on the left is the egg in question and the egg on the right is a typical hens large egg.

Chicken behavior during a total solar eclipse, Faroe Islands

I saw this on Reddit this morning and thought I would share it here. The rooster is hilarious. http://kvf.fo/netvarp/sv/2015/03/20/20150320orkymladarhonur?fb_action_ids=10205380822553976&fb_action_types=og.likes&fb_ref=.VQyXM0RVZYE.like

Pitfalls and selling points of selling fertile eggs in Spring

I wouldn't say a word. If you get a complaint, offer a free dozen eggs. (with blood spots ) I think it tends to happen with younger layers so that may be why you get it now. (I Think so too!)

Pitfalls and selling points of selling fertile eggs in Spring

The hidden eggs go to my dog...Its a bargain between him and I... he won't mess with my chickens and I'll give him eggs once in awhile. I collect them several times a day. They are a healthy bunch of fuzzy faced girls but I guess they may be a little cold or just knocking out eggs too fast...

Pitfalls and selling points of selling fertile eggs in Spring

This stuff always seems to happen to me around this time. Maybe it is the cold or something that causes it but it only happens every once in awhile. But every time I crack one and there is a blood spot...I tend to freak out and wonder what happens when my customers see the same thing. I...

Pitfalls and selling points of selling fertile eggs in Spring

Every year I go thru this with the hens. I have a bunch of first year layers that are laying now. they have beautiful eggs but sometimes they have a little string of blood or blood spot. I'm pretty sure it has to do with getting ready to have baby chicks behavior. I don't really think its a...

    Emergency..clipped chicken's lower beak...now she won't stop bleeding

She has finally stopped (I hope). I just kept pressing corn starch against the lower beak that had been clipped. She smells bad (all the blood that I have attempted to clean off her breast area) and is pretty upset but I'll leave her downstairs by the door so she will be warm...(super cold...

    Emergency..clipped chicken's lower beak...now she won't stop bleeding

My ameracuana hen has scissorbeak and I tried to clip the bottom beak b/c it kept growing out so she couldn't eat properly. She has been bleeding for a few hours. Its a slow drip from her lower beak. Ihave her in a chicken cage downstairs and I keep wiping her off. I have soft food and water...

Adding an electric fence around old poultry net fencing?

I have 2 long lengths of poultry netting which I've used for about 4 years with no issues. This year I have a fox family in the area that I am trying to trap and a neighbor's new dog that has been coming over. Plus some of the hens have figured out how to push their heads under the fence and...

    zero hatch in my bator??

Okay... next time its candle time.. I'm almost a little squeamish about looking at the contents of fertile eggs. To be honest, I wouldn't even do an autopsy on the unhatched eggs... too creeped out to look inside... but will man up as they say these days and take a look throughout the...

    zero hatch in my bator??

Just weighing them...... I should candle I guess. But I think with 2 roos in there, at least one should have been fertile. They are constantly hammering on the hens and they are mostly confined these days due to the cold weather.

    zero hatch in my bator??

I started my first hatch of my own barnyard mixes last month when the weather was fairly cold. I collected the eggs as quick as I could, going down to the nests every few hours. jI live in Western NY and the winter here has been brutal. The polor vortex was really a factor here. I have two...

hen on a nest in cold weather?

My downstairs TV room is starting to smell a bit "chicken-y". Its that high powered protein meal they get. We have the temps going down into the minus area ....again!!! For the next 2 nights. So its back and fourth for a few more nights. This is all getting a bit old. I would never ever...
