all roosters! What luck. All of the four chicks I got in the fall are male. Oh well. I have already sent three to a farm up north. Lets see how long I can keep one rooster.
Hopefully, my batch of frizzle chicks will be all female. They come in next week. I can't wait. I will post pictures once...
We had 3 Mink come into our yard in the fall. Only one got into our coop. Luckly it was only able to catch and kill one chicken before we caught it. Good luck with you hunt! The Mink that came into our yard were from a Mink farm about 3 miles down the road, a PETA person let about 8,000 loose.
Thanks for all the comments. My chickens right now have to go through a gunny sack that we have hanging over the door. Maybe since they are use to that, it won't be so hard to train them.
Have a wonderful day.
I just picked up a nice dog door at a thrift shop for cheap. It would make an excellent door for the coop, but I am not sure the chickens will be able to push through the flap. Has anyone ever tried this before? It would work great to keep out some of the elements.
I have 4 four month silkies. One of my splash started limping yesterday. I noticed but wasn't quite sure something was wrong until today. She lays down a lot and limps when she does get up to walk. She is eatting and hopefully drinking. The other chickens are sitting next to her when she does...
I had a hawk get one of my chickens in the spring. Put some hiding spots for the chickens in their yard. Right now I have a piece of latice that is leaning against the fence. They run under there if needed. I will be putting up netting in the spring as well.
I went out last night to lock up the coop and when I opened the door, all the baby silkies were sitting on the roost. Yippie, one did decide it likes the nesting box with one of my adult silkies. Oh well, at least they are not on the floor anymore. Happy New Year!
Right now in my coop we have straw. I have noticed that it really does get stinky pretty fast. I am wanting to go back to shavings as soon as the weather permits.
