    Question regarding my chick's beaks

It looks like they were trimmed. Commercial egg producers do that sometimes to ease pecking.

Hi! Thanks for visiting my page! I live in North Central Illinois with my wife and two boys. We are new to Chickens, this is our first few. After a bit of research I decided to pick up 3-4 Plymouth Rocks and start building a tractor style coop. My son and I framed out the tractor and I got...

    MISSOURI ! ! !

I just moved here a couple months ago. Had to rehome my birds while renting for a while. I hope to start another flock as soon as I can get some land purchased.

    Garage Chickens...Who does this??

I've had mine in the garage for inclement weather and big girl brooding. I wouldn't want to do that for an extended time though. The dust is really, really bad. Here's my temporary garage shelter/brooder.

Any waterfowl hunters here? *graphic photos*

Waterfowl hunter right here! I don't have a dog or a boat, but all my friends have farms. I just set up my laydown blind and my decoys and flag 'em in. I love Goose-ka-bobs!

How loud is the egg song--for real

One of my BO girls is really loud! I can hear her from a block away singing the egg song. The others aren't so loud. My EE's are actually pretty quiet.

Smallest door size for buff orpington?

I have had two WR's and a BO in the nest box at the same time, and I am using milk crates. They fit in places you wouldn't believe. That being said, I would make darn sure that there are no rough edges or any place for the birds to get snagged going through the hole. They will definitely be...

    My Makeshift Coop

Outdoor coop has full grown LF girls in it. I would love to put the hens out there but they would get torn to shreds right now, they're just too small yet. Two of the SLW's are boys and I'm not going to put them out there. One is going to a friend and the others fate is up in the air yet...

Holy cow! My coop is hosed! Snowstorm related....

Sorry I haven't gotten around to posting pics of my garage setup. I just set it up again for some chicks that have outgrown their brooder. I started a new thread here featuring the garage setup. Enjoy! https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=499043

    My Makeshift Coop

When I had my snowstorm disaster I made a makeshift coop out of a play yard and misc. materials I had laying around. Some folks were asking me to post pics and I hadn't gotten around to it until now. Currently I put it together for a big girl brooder for my SLW's. It consists of a tarp on the...

    question on grower feed

That's all I've ever seen is grower crumbles. Is your's pellets? If so, what brand? I would much rather feed pellets than crumbles. Less waste. That's all I give my layers is pellets.

    question on grower feed

I feed mine grower crumble. They eat it dry.

    Ventilation Question

I see that they want you to have the water and food outside the coop in that plan. I would build bigger and put the food inside. That might work fine in a dry environment but for me, food outside is a no-go. I tried it and ended up with moldy food on the ground very quickly. Also, they may not...

So far chickens are a pain in the butt...

Quote: Yes, you should try pine shavings. I don't know what you are using now but pine chips/shavings are great for keeping the smell down. get about 10" of pine chips in there and toss in some pelletized garden lime and you should smell a big improvement. That's what I do and I get a lot of...
