Freaking out about Chicago record breaking cold

Great point! Warmer I’m sure. The lamp is at the top of the coop. They are closest when on their roosts. Now is 5 degrees in there and they were roaming around inside and eating not as close as they could be to the heat source.

The coop is decent plywood construction and dry. With the heat lamp it is holding at just 3 degrees inside. They have heated...

    Hen losing weight and isolated

There are 3 hens and 1 rooster in a 36'ft walk in coop plus a 150'ft run and occasionally free ranged. The hen still looks thin her feathers are all in. She is eating and drinking but one of the hens in particular will peck at her if she gets close to the others or tries to get on the roost at...

    Hen losing weight and isolated

Our lavender Orpington within the last 2 weeks has moved from top roost at night to middle roost below the 3 other chickens, to now sleeping in a nesting box. She just had new feathers grow in and looks good except for being thinner and seems to have the same friendly personality with people...

Should I Worry that this is a worm in my eggs?

I found these in my eggs this morning. We have hens and a rooster. I've never noticed before. Should I worry that these are worms? Eggs are 2 weeks old and stored in refrigerator. In the egg white there is a whitefish blob with a reddish brown dot in it, pulling the reddish brown dot away from...

And another 10 days has passed and she still seems about the same, somewhat lethargic but eating and going outside with the other chickens but for not as long and she's not very active. She's sleeping at night in a nesting box.

She is still with us 2 days ago full of energy. Yesterday I found her twice on her side and had to help her back up. This morning she seemed good and was waking around outside and interacting with the other chickens. I did notice a couple of lice this morning on my hand after touching her. She...

Yes mites checked and OK. Internal parasites were checked 2 weeks ago and again today and OK. She is also eating more, since at first she didn't seem to have an appetite. But she has actually lost a little bit of weight. I will check Tractor Supply for vitamin supplicant tomorrow. Thanks

treatment cure or comfort for non-Mareks Reproductive cancer

Great questions. The vet checked for internal laying. Initially that shown the infection was described to me and they did X-rays but felt it was not developed egg based on X-ray. Parasite check done amd there were parasites, also treated. Fecal test today shows no parasites. Cancer diagnosis...

treatment cure or comfort for non-Mareks Reproductive cancer

I have a 10 month old easter egger who had been vaccinated for Meraks. After weeks of back and forth visits to the vet, about 8 weeks now, they believe she has reproductive cancer. They offered to test for it but said there was no treatment, so not necessarily suggesting it. It began with...

7 mo old Golden Laced Polish cockerel

Thought it was a hen but as it grew, discovered it's a rooster. He is a tame, docile, friendly, healthy beautiful bird. My favorite, but I can't keep him. Free to a very good home. I would keep him if I could, love his personality. (Northern IL)
