Do I have to worry about predators during the day?

We live on a creek lot-fenced but the bars are about 4-6 inches apart. We have seen nearly everything in our backyard but mostly at dusk. Do I need to be worried about our hens ranging in the day also? Should I always be out with them when they are ranging? If so, what is the easiest wayto get...

THANKS!!! This is exactly what I was looking for!! We gave our little ones mealworms for the first time today. We laughed so much!! They would get one and run around and around trying to keep it from the others but weren't really sure what to do with it at first:lol:

Are all types of treats mentioned here good for chicks also (2 1/2 weeks old:)? I am going to give them the pumpkin guts ground up in the food processor, we've tried strawberry tops, scrambled eggs (a HUGE hit!). Can I give them crickets from the pet store? Does anyone have a good list of...

    Grit, or no Grit

I read somewhere that since chickens don't have teeth they have a crop where they store pebbles, rocks, sand to help grind up what they eat- like a built in mortar and pestle:} My little ones have parakeet grit sprinkled into their medicated food. I gave them a scrambled egg last night when...

I remember reading on here that someone was giving their chicks infant Polyvisol (no iron)drops in their water. Would that be appropriate to use? Thanks for the clarification on what is in their starter feed:)

    sneezing 5 day old chicks

They are getting antibiotics in their starter feed. I have not given them electrolytes though. I'll try that. They all seem to be doing fine otherwise-they had a great playdate in the garden today since it was so warm-85degrees!! They loved it:) They are learning to scratch-incredibly cute!!
