He is a Blue Laced Red Wyandotte. I wasn't 100% sure but told her he might be a he. The feathering on these birds gets better as they mature and I wasn't sure if he was a mix or pure at the time. I'm still learning. Fairly confident he's 100% BLRW now and want to see how he matures...
He will be the only cockerel in the flock which is why I was anxious to get him back. We'll see how it goes Saturday. I usually quarantine but since these were my mine to begin with I'm fairly comfortable skipping that step. I will know more after I pick him up and I can see where her birds...
I sold some chickens to a friend at work who was starting a new flock. One turned out to be a roo and she wants to trade for a pullet. I am fine with that. It has been about 6-8 weeks since I sold them to her. Do I need to seperate him from the flock I have? Will they remember him as one of...
I have not noticed any worms and I have been looking. I have noticed the normal variety of normal looking poops. They shouldn't have gotten into anything chemical or harmful like that. I'm thinking I might just give them a good spring cleaning out. Do a batch of molasses water and then hit...
I've had chickens for almost 4 years now and this is my first bout with illness. Several of my hens have some poopy stuck in the feathers on their backside. Vents are not infected looking nor oozing stuff. I looked at pics of vent gleet  and I don't think it's that. I have discovered...
Was actually a small hatchery and I know my roo was off in coloring so who knows what he is doing. I DO know what I won't be doing though.....:thumbsup
Well, my Rusty has been my least favorite roo! Unforunately, he came at me one too many times and is no longer with us. :(:(We have only had him and a couple of EE roos. KungPao (pictured in my profile) lost his live fighting off a hawk. I currently have a young cockerel that I believe is a...
These are all the same 2 Maran hens with a couple of photo bombers thrown in. I know their coloring is not right and is too mottled but I was hoping for dark eggs at least. I have a gotten a few that are speckled. I did purchase from a small local breeder so I am not very confident in his ways.
1. Buff Orphington
2. Barred Rock
3. Dominque
4. EE
5. Red Sex Link
6. Black Jersey Giant
7. Gray English? Orphington
8. GLW
What will I get? SO excited to see what hatches....
I agree that the feathers resemble one of my Orphingtons, but I really thought this IS the chick in the back. I was also thinking roo, which is okay since I am down a roo.
I'm showing my ignorance but there were 2 eggs that hatched - one was the dark one and one was the lighter one in the back. The two chicks are shown in the top pic but the one in the front with the black and white didn't make it. I am not sure which chick came out of which egg sorry to say.:(
No, I purchased the eggs. First time for that I made a few rookie mistakes. They were supposed to Oliver eggers, Blue or Chocolate Orphington, maybe Black Sex Link?, and Blue and Black Birchen Marans in the mix. I think that is what she said. I cannot find the exact post.
I know these are not the best photos. It the baby chick photo this guy is in the back. Has slate legs but no feathers. Any ideas on breed/sex? Chick is almost 5 weeks old.
One of my EE went broody and I slipped 13 eggs under her hoping to keep some stock from my BFCM roo who sadly is no longer with us. We lost one early one, one got stepped on I think and died a few days ago and another was broken with no chick in it last night. Last night there were 4 that had...
