Interesting findings. I’ve never calculated exactly how many my (many) different breeds lay, but will agree that my RIR laid well throughout seasons, but all 3 unfortunately didn’t make it past 3 years. My amarucanas rage from 3-6 years and I still get several green eggs a day, so I know...
We bought an 8x10 shed from Lowe’s and built it ourselves for around $800. It was an amazing investment since I can house 20+ birds in there and it’s fully contained if needed.
I would agree, Wyandotte’s are beautiful. My 2 ladies squat for me every time I enter the coop because they’re so docile and think I’m their rooster. even tempered and handle the heat well.
I love my australorps. They have beautiful big black eyes.. not overly friendly, but they’ve tolerated a week over over 100 degrees, and many months of 90+. Medium brown eggs. They’re just really pretty to see in my 30+ flock.
I have a 5 year old Leghorn that has become increasingly lame over the last 4 weeks. It seems as though she’s slowly becoming paralyzed in her back end and now spreading to her wings. I’m sad since she still shows active interest in eating with the flock in the morning and goes to the waterer...
I’ve battled tapeworms for years. I’ve tried all the methods both organically and chemically.. they always come back as I have wild birds that come to eat leftovers. Pumpkin is always a treat but I don’t have personal experience with it affecting the worm load. Happy to say that the worms...
I've used Equimax to treat worms. The problem is, that it tastes so bad my girls won't eat the bread I wrap it in. Out of 14 birds, I only have 2 that I can handle readily so masking the Pasteur a treat is a necessity. I've been battling tapes for 8 months. I'm beginning to think ill never get...
I'm a relatively new chicken master- moved from the city to the country and started with chickens 3 years ago. I refuse to go see my overpriced crooked vet for help because it would be no less than $200 so I look to these forums for sound advise; and for the most part it has helped a lot. So...
I have 9 adult ladies that have had tapeworms for about 3 months now. My neighbor suggested Ivermectin Pour-on for cattle, so I rushed out and got some. I gathered them all up and dosed (orally) as many as I could grab. They hated it!! Then after re-reading the instructions I discovered that...
